Giant Liv Suede 2 2016
To the untrained eye, a significant design feature of the Giant Liv Suede may not be obvious, but take a moment to study the image of the bike.
Notice how the saddle is not above the pedals as on other bikes but set back behind the pedals?
Looks a bit 'odd' doesn't it. But the reason for it will be a huge benefit to many riders and in some cases may be the difference between riding and not riding.
On a regular bike, in order to have the correct leg extension for efficient pedalling, the saddle needs to be adjusted to a certain height, which results in a tip-toes-on-the-ground situation, when seated on the saddle.
On the Suede, the rearward saddle position allows for the rider to have the correct saddle height for optimum pedalling, but at the same time have their feet flat on the ground when stationary.
This is a real confidence booster for people who may be just trying cycling again after some years of inactivity or who have balance or confidence issues. The low step through height also helps in actually getting on the bike, for those who may have problems lifting their leg over a higher bar. Ladies with hip issues etc find this really helpful.
This easy mounting and the sure-footed starting point is in some cases, a real surprise, a revelation in fact. Combine this with an adjustable head stem that allows a personalisation of the handlebar position for maximum comfort and control and a simple 7 speed gear system and you can see that the Suede is the ideal bike for an adult beginner, a heavier person, someone lacking flexibility, someone with balance issues, hip issues or who are just plain nervous about being perched up high on a bike.
If you struggle with any of these points, try a Suede out and see what you think.
