Cyclocross

The Giant TCX is perfect for training throughout Winter on fire roads, paths and Rail Trails. It's the perfect cross-over bike for both road riders and mountain bikers. The TCX is available in two aluminium models, and 2 carbon models (called the TCX Advanced Pro).

Giant cyclocross or gravel grinder bikes are denoted by the acronym TCX. The Giant cyclocross range consists of two types; the TCX SLR range and the TCX Advanced product range.

Cyclocross bikes are a versatile bike for road and mountain bike riders who are in need of a training bike over Winter. The Giant TCX is right at home on fire roads, bike paths and Rail Trails. Positioning on the bike is slightly more aggressive than on a Giant Revolt, Giant Anyroad and the new Giant Toughroad SLR GX. If you’re an intermediate to seasoned rider then you will not have an issue, but if you’re a first-time rider and do not have great flexibility, then you’re better off with the other options.

TCX SLR cyclocross bikes are made using Giant’s high-performance 6011-A aluminium, called ALUXX SLR. What makes the ALUXX SLR aluminium frame so good, is that it uses a triple-butting process to shed weight and increase stiffness in key areas to deliver exceptional pedalling efficiency and handling. The triple-butted frame has 3 wall thicknesses; the thinnest where the least amount of loading occurs and thickest where there’s excessive force.

There are 2 models to choose from in the TCX aluminium frame:

/ Giant TCX SLR 1 RRP $2,899.00 (SRAM Rival 1, 11-speed)
/ Giant TCX SLR 2 RRP $1,999.00 (Shimano 105, 11-speed)

No suspension means comfort and compliance are delivered through a couple of key areas:

/ Giant’s D-Fuse Seatpost is designed to flex about 2.5 times more than a normal traditional seat post. The completely flat back section absorbs the majority of impacts and high-frequency vibrations.

/ The carbon fibre fork does much the same thing, especially with minor vibrations. Larger impacts are still felt but the severity is minimised.

/ Giant has moulded the rear stays into a flat thin section - especially with their carbon frames - to amplify flex.

Giant TCX is also available in 2 carbon frames called the TCX Advanced. It’s a monocoque frame (one piece) that ensures the TCX Advanced bikes are light and efficient. The TCX Advanced bikes have a much stiffer bottom bracket and torsional stiffness; delivering smoother power to pedals and better handling, compared with aluminium the models.

There are two models to choose from:

/ Giant TCX Advanced Pro 1 $4,599.00 (SRAM Force CX 1)
/ Giant TCX Advanced Pro 2 $3,499.00 (SRAM Rival 1)

All Giant TCX models now have front and rear thru axles. This increases the lateral stiffness of the frame - dramatically - improving both the cornering and handling performance of the bikes. It also makes wheels changes quicker and easier.
