Giant Toughroad SLR 0 2018

The Toughroad SLR 0 is an interesting bike.

As its name indicates, it is a road bike............of sorts, but just take note of a few basic points and it soon becomes evident that it is no ordinary flat bar road bike or hybrid.

The wheels are 700c and are fitted with huge 50mm tyres, which can be viewed as being equivalent to a 29er Mountain Bike with 2' tyres.

The gearing too is 'different', closely resembling that of a high end Mountain Bike, with the thoroughly modern 1 x 11 setup. Meaning one chainring at the front as opposed to 2 or 3, coupled to 11 cogs at the rear with a monstrous 42 tooth large cog.

Hydraulic disc brakes are increasingly being fitted to high end bikes of all styles. Road, Hybrid, Mountain, and so fits perfectly on the Roam 0.

A light weight aluminium frame holds all the bits and pieces together and is completed up front with a composite front fork.

So despite many of the specifications matching that of a high end 29er MTB, there is no suspension.................front or back. 

Could it be called a rigid 29er MTB? Probably.

Could it be called an off road touring bike? Sure! Why not?

But it is called a Toughroad, however it is obviously suited to so much more than just road riding.

An allrounder in the true sense of the word.

But a quality allrounder, likely to be most appreciated by the experienced cyclist, who appreciates a bike for what it does. How it rides and how it makes the rider feel. 

A bike that allows the rider to appreciate the journey.
