In an age where most bikes are made of aluminium it is unusual to come across one built with Reynolds cold worked, double butted chrome-moly steel.
It still makes sense. Aluminium transfers vibration very efficiently. Unfortunately our bodies soak it up, eventually leading to exhaustion given enough.
Steel absorbs some of that, which is why a steel bike still feels so pleasant to ride.
Unfortunately it is much cheaper to produce a lightweight aluminium bike, than it is to produce the equivalent weight chrome-moly bike. But at this price it is well worth considering.
The Coda could well be one of the most comfortable bikes you have ridden. We won’t count carbon fibre bikes as they are in a totally different price range. With this in mind the saddle on the Jamis is very comfortable and works with the frame to produce a brilliant ride.
The handlebars come set low for performance, but the stem can be reversed to allow a more upright and comfortable riding position. The grips are ergonomic, nice and soft and add to the comfort.
If you ride in traffic, you will appreciate the efficient linear pull brakes. They provide powerful braking under all conditions. There is a power modulater fitted to the front brake to ensure smooth, efficient braking, even if an emergency stop is required.
The gear system uses a wide range triple crank, with a long cage rear derailleur to give a high top speed capability combined with a really low range for climbing impossible slopes. You will have a gear suitable for virtually any terrain you will come across. It certainly makes for easier riding.
