This is a lightweight comfortable hybrid bike, that has no suspension.

Why no suspension?

Suspension has several advantages. It raises the handlebar height of the bike (usually about 50mm). In the case of a hybrid bike, the additional height adds to the comfort of the bike, and improves the ride quality, by absorbing more severe road shocks.

However..... There are disadvantages.

The addition of suspension adds to the cost of the bike, often by at least $100, It increases the weight of the bike by at least a kilo, and it makes a slight difference to the handlin, as the steering is not quite as precise. Still most people consider the advantages far outweigh the dis advantages.

The Ultimo approaches this problem in a different manner. Research on ballon tyres have demonstrated that a ballon tyre with a large volume of air can actually give a more comfortable ride than suspension, given small impacts. Certainly they are not suited to off road bikes, but here we are talking about general urban usage, you know, bike paths, gravel tracks, roads and footpaths.

Ballon tyres absorb most minor imperfections, and give a smooth, comfortable ride, without the added weight of suspension.

The Ultimo, with its quality componentry will give a smooth ride, and at a surprisingly low cost. If you are considering this style of bike it's well worth a test ride, you will be surprised how comfortable it is.
