Giant Trance 27.5 2
The new Trance 27.2 2 is a well-designed package for the intermediate rider. The rider who loves his local cross country trails but isn’t afraid of tackling the technical trails either.
The Giant Trance 2 represents a truly versatile package; Giant has tailored the bike to both cross-country, enduro and trail use. That said, as is evident by the Trance 27.5 2’s geometry, the bike does have a slight bias towards descents. The new Trance frame acquires technical upgrades over previous model years, such as:
- Internal cabling that uses moulded rubber inserts for cleaner entrance and exit points into the frame.
- Rear wheel travel increased to 140mm (5.5 inches).
- Brand new bearing design at the upper linkage to optimise for 27.5 inch wheels.
- 12mm rear thru-axle gives the frame added torsional stiffness. The thru-axle is quick release for quick wheel changes.
- Integrated chain stay protector for better frame protection.
The Giant Trance 2 features a brand new aluminium frame optimised for 27.5-inch wheels. Giant have great belief that 650B (or 27.5 inch) is the way forward; all of their data, testing and rider feedback highlights the benefits of this wheel size. Compared with 26-inch and 29ers, it’s important to note that 650B isn’t the best in any one area but it is the best overall performer. 650B gives the bike the best combination of low weight, traction, geometry, frame stiffness and acceleration.
The head tube angle has been slackened to 67 degrees; the norm for contemporary trail bikes, resulting in greater confidence on the descents and allows the rider to manoeuvre the front wheel easier up-and-over trail obstacles. That said, climbing ability isn’t sacrificed completely in favour of descending prowess; the Trance 2 uses a short 10cm head tube and steep 73.5 degree seat tube angle to get weight over the front bars on ascents and maximum power to the pedals, respectively.
Giant’s reputation for value for money is evident in the Trance 27.5 2 build package. The Fox Float CTD Evolution Series suspension package provides smooth and controlled performance in all terrain, in addition to numerous adjustments to tailor the feel of the suspension to your preference. The Climb-Trail-Descend lever provides further adjustment to suspension low-speed compression rates simply with a turn of a lever.
Shimano SLX Dyna-Sys is featured for the majority of the drive train components. Shimano produced SLX to cater for the demands of cross country, trail and enduro riders. Shimano designed SLX as an affordable performance-level groupset. The SLX drive train on the Trance 2 features Dyna-Sys transmission; therefore, it not only provides the best efficiency, gear selection is smooth and reliable.
The MRP 2x dual ring chain guide keeps the chain on and rolling over technical trail sections that would likely throw the chain off. For those that have had to stop constantly to put the chian back on will consider this a God-send.
