ROCKY MOUNTAIN SLAYER ALLOY 30 (2021) - BLUE

The Rocky Mountain Slayer is one of those freakishly good bikes. It looks like a big, heavy bruiser (and it can be) but it’s also surprisingly good at pedalling too.

In this preview, I’m going to explain what and who should buy the Slayer Alloy 30, why they should buy it and explain some of the major components bolted to the frame.

WHAT IS THE SLAYER?

The Slayer is designed for triple duties. It’s built for adventure, Enduro gravity racing and hitting big lines.

So, if you’re looking at bikes like the Giant Reign 29, Santa Cruz Megatower, Specialized Enduro, Trek Slash or even the Rocky Mountain Altitude, the Slayer should also be on your shortlist.

It’s built for places like Silvan, Red Hill, the You Yangs and Mount Taylor. It’s also at home (it’s built for British Columbia after all) on Australia’s high-country and alpine trails.

So if you ride these places often, and you’re tired (literally) of being hammered on your short travel bike, the Slayer is going to take your riding to the next level - guarantee.

Yeah, that’s how good it is.

Also, if your rides take you away from home to places like Tasmania, Bright, Beauty and Falls Creek, the Slayer will help you ride these trails smoother and faster.

WHY THE SLAYER?

Most riders upgrading to the Slayer are already riding bikes from 120mm to 150mm of rear wheel travel.

Before riding the Slayer, I’d seen images and videos of Thomas Vanderham steezing the Slayer over massive gaps and Carson Storch dropping insane Red Bull Rampage lines.

And most people get that impression just looking at the Slayer. I mean, the thing looks Beast.

Out on the trails of Silvan (and initially Lysterfield for suspension tuning), it’s a completely different story.

You can read about how it rides next, but the message I want to convey is that the Slayer is mind-blowingly good because it’s so usable on most types of trails and gradients. You don’t need a 10 metre drop off to get the most out of it.

If you’re riding Lysterfield or the smoother sections of Plenty Gorge, then consider the Giant Trance X 29 or Rocky Mountain Instinct.
