XDS STRIKE 2.0 (2018)
XDS’s Strike 2.0 not only looks striking, it also delivers killer value for money. Perfect for teenagers and pre-teens who want to try their hand at mountain biking (entry level, that is), or those spending most of their time between dirt, gravel and sealed bike paths.
XDS are one of largest original equipment manufacturers in the world; with most of their production occurring for other brands in the industry. As a result, they make exceptional quality frames and we do emphasize exceptionally. The reason why is because XDS is the original manufacturer; they can afford to produce better quality frames than other brands. The XDS Strike 2.0 is no different; a double-butted fluid formed frame minimises weight and improves strength and the smooth weld technique amplifies the frame’s cleanliness. Every XDS frame comes with a Lifetime Frame Warranty.
The Strike 2.0 features the latest Shimano Altus 9-speed gear range, that delivers a total of 27-gears. An update to the shifters, derailleurs, chain and cassette ensures super smooth gear changes and better longevity out of the components. Gears are changed via the trigger shifters on the handlebar; every click moves the derailleur a precise amount, resulting in fast, precise gear shifts.
Front suspension duties are handled by the Suntour XCT fork. Consumers, please note that this is a recreational level mountain bike fork; which means it can handle gentle unsealed surfaces and the occasional smooth singletrack. If you’re planning to ride anything more technical, more often then consider upgrading to the XDS Boss 4.0. This bike is designed for more technical mountain biking (tree roots, rocks, logs and more repeated impacts) and the suspension is better suited to this type of riding. Anyways, the Suntour XCT also features a lockout lever that allows the suspension to be switch off for riding on sealed concrete bike paths.
Tektro handles the braking duties with the HD-M285 brakes. These are a full hydraulic system. The advantages with a hydraulic brake system are: the brakes work better in the wet and dry, they don’t get affected by mud, grit or dust and they need much less maintenance than a mechanical brake system. Levers can also be adjusted for younger riders; so that they don’t need to overextend and can brake safely under emergency braking. Double wall rims improve the rim’s stiffness without adding significant weight.
The matte black and green frame comes in a few different sizes, from 13-inch (XS) to 19-inch (L). To attain the best fit, please visit either our Hallam or Heidelberg Heights store.
