XDS STRIKE 4.0 RIGID - GREEN HERON
The latest XDS Strike 4.0 Rigid has been designed as a bike that sits in between a kids 24-inch and adult recreational mountain bike.
It’s light enough for small kids to lift and manoeuvre. It’s got hydraulic disc brakes. And a simple and easy gearing system.
Essentially, it’s got big bike features in a small sized package.
Here are the details:
WHO IS IT FOR?
If your child is too big for a 24-inch kids bike but isn’t quite big enough for an adult bike. We’ve found kids around 9-11 years old generally occupy this grey area.
And:
You also want the lightest bike you can get without sacrificing versatility. In other words, a bike that can be ridden on bike paths, rail trails, light dirt and gravel trails, not just on sealed bike paths.
THE FRAME
XDS is one of the largest bike brands in the world. The biggest brand you’ve never heard of, is what we often joke about.
You see, that’s because they’re an engineering brand.
Stuff like marketing and advertising isn’t really important because they have a reputation in the inner circles of the bike industry as being a manufacturer who specialises in premium aluminium and carbon-fibre bike frames.
The Strike Rigid’s frame is made from XDS’ premium X6-level aluminium. It’s stronger and has better fatigue strength than comparable alloy frames.
To lighten the Strike even more, XDS has used aluminium components everywhere. Including the fork - an area where most companies tend to use steel.
THE COMPONENTS
The XDS Strike 4.0 has sensibly been equipped with mid-range gear system.
And it’s equipped with a modern drivetrain that has 8 gears on the back and 2 gears on the front - 16 in total.
Each gear is controlled via trigger gear shifter (not twist-grip style) which’ll make it easier for kids to operate the gears.
To elevate safety, XDS has used hydraulic disc brakes on this bike too.
Hydro brakes are the best option - especially for kids - as they slow riders down faster and with more control.
The brake levers can be adjusted for smaller hands and without affecting braking performance (like on some mechanical brakes). This means smaller riders have the confidence to use the brakes and stop safely without overreaching and taking part of their hand off the handlebar.
