How do I select the right size bike for my child?
The easiest and most reliable way to find the right size for your child would be to bring them into your local Ivanhoe Cycles store, and they can try out every bike and ride around our showroom floor - however we know that is not always possible, especially at Christmas time. So to help you narrow your search down online, we have grouped our kids bikes into age groups: 2-5 years (12”/14” bikes), 4-6 years (16”/18” bikes), 5-8 years (20” bikes), 7-11 years (24” bikes) and 10+ years (26”/700c” kids bikes). If your child is tall for their age, and fall at the upper end of an age bracket, they may be more comfortable on the next size up.
Is there any difference between boys and girls bikes?
In some cases boys and girls bikes have small differences in the frame geometry, with girls bikes often having a shorter drop-down frame and a girls-specific seat, but this varies between manufacturers. Some manufacturers will use a unisex frame and simply vary the colour. Children will ride the bike they feel most comfortable on (and of course looks the coolest!), so their personal preference is most important.
Can I accessorize my child’s bike?
Absolutely! We sell a wide range of kids bike accessories to add some colour and fun, including kids baskets, doll carriers, handlebar streamers, and spoke decorations.
