HARO FLIGHTLINE ONE STEP-THROUGH - DESERT FADE
Haro’s latest recreational mountain bike is the Flightline One. The ‘ST’ in the name refers to it being a step-through frame. In this preview, we’ll explain the Flightline One ST in a little more detail so you can make an informed decision as to whether it’ll be the right new mountain bike.
Similar to the Liv Bliss, the Flightline One ST is designed for bike paths, fire access roads and rail trails; trails that are either concrete, smooth dirt and gravel.
It’s at home on leisurely rides with the family and friends. It’s not designed for the serious enthusiast. Rather being a better match for those who ride in fair weather but want a reliable bike anytime they choose to go out.
Starting with the frame.
It’s easy to think that all aluminium frames are made equal. But they’re not. So, it’s nice to see that Haro has gone above the average effort level.
All the tube structures and profiles are thoughtfully designed to minimise weight and increase rigidity. From the boxed profile of the downtube to the slim-flat profile of the top tube.
Plus, most of the brake and gear cables thread inside the frame making the Flightline look a little cleaner.
At the front, the Flightline One ST comes with front suspension. It makes the bike a little more versatile; comfortable on unsealed surfaces as well as on road.
Another advantage is it makes the handling a little more stable (less nervous); pre-teens and teens who are upgrading from a 24-inch bike will adapt quickly.
Next we have brakes and gears.
Mechanical v-brakes are paired to Shimano brake levers. For smaller riders the brake levers can be adjusted so that they sit closer to the handlebar, allowing for easier reach and more control.
There are 21 gears in this Shimano dominant gearing system; 3 front gears and 7 rear gears. The most practical gear range just keep it in gear 2 on the front (left-hand gear selector) and fine tune with the rear gears
Gear 1 is the easiest and 7 is the hardest to push, so only use this if you’re going downhill. The optical display on the gear selectors will show you what gear you’re in too.
In addition to the aluminium alloy frame, Haro has used alloy rims, handlebars, head stem and seatpost to further reduce weight.
Regarding sizing, there are 2 frame sizes to choose. For rough approximation, please check out the sizing guide above.
