    IT’S A MID-DRIVE

    First, it’s a mid-drive e-bike. This means the heaviest part of the bike is in the middle (and at the lowest point). This lowers the E-Spresso’s centre of gravity and, therefore, improves handling - similar to a normal bike.

    So for riders who are a little unsure or haven’t ridden a bike in a while, this is going to be a significant consideration.

    THE DISPLAY

    The clear LED display shows key metrics such as Power Assist Level (5 levels), Battery Level, Distance, Total Distance and Speed.

    There’s a control on the handlebar that allows you to adjust the assistance level (power) at 5 levels.

    THE GEARS

    XDS’ S2i uses Shimano’s clean and very easy to use internal gears.

    The reason why Shimano’s internal gears are so easy to use is because you don’t need to pedal forward to shift gears. Using the gear shifter, you select the gear you want and Shimano’s mechanism will instantly select that gear - no pedalling required.

    There are a total of 8 gears and no front gears; making maintenance very easy.

    Further, the chain used with internal hub systems tend to more durable. That’s because the chain is moving in a straight line; it’s not shifting up or down (that’s all done inside the back hub).

    And remember that there’s more torque and power transmitted through the drivetrain on e-bikes, so any improvement in durability is going to be extremely beneficial.

    There is a downside though:

    The system is a little heavier than Shimano’s conventional gears. But since you’re on an e-bike with more power, this extra weight becomes negligible.

    LOW AND MANEUVERABLE

    The frame itself is quite unique.

    Made from aluminium, XDS has shed weight as much as possible from the bike.

    The very, very low step-through frame makes mounting and dismounting much easier. Not only is it a great option for the ladies, we often have men buying the E-Spresso too.

    The rack will easily accommodate a rack top bag, and full-length mudguards make riding in wet conditions much more bearable.
