Bike Cleaners & Degreasers

A bike cleaner is different to a bike degreaser.

Bike cleaners are gentler and used on your bike's frame, suspension and even brakes. One of our favourites is the Muc-Off Bike Cleaner.

This lifts the dirt and mud off the surface which makes it a lot easier to rinse off stubborn stains.

A bike degreaser is designed for your drive-train components. Stuff like chain, cassette sprockets, derailleur, jockey wheels and chain rings. Degreasers are designed to strip grease, old chain lube and heavy grime.

The first step to a clean bike is to degrease first.

Bike degreasers come in various intensities.

For example:

Muc-Off's High-Pressure Quick Drying Degreaser is a fast and powerful degreaser that doesn't require rinsing.

Then there's Muc-Off's Bio Drivetrain Cleaner that is safe to use on metal, plastic and rubber.

Then use a suitable bike cleaner or bike wash to clean the rest of the bike. Use a soft brush or sponge.

Use a microfibre cloth to absorb any moisture - especially from the chain.

After your bike is clean, use an after bike wash surface protectant.

Protectants are either silicone-based (like the Muc-Off Silicone Shine) or oil-based (like the Muc-Off Bike Protect).

Oil based protectants are a little more heavy-duty and better for Winter riding; especially for commuters, mountain bikers and gravel riders.

Bike Protect and Silicone Shine can also be used on droppers posts, suspension stanchions and suspension pivots.
