In contrast to in-mould helmets, hard shell helmets are made with the outer shell and lining formed separately, then laminated together.

This method results in excellent impact protection, extended rear coverage and a more affordable price tag, but does compromise on ventilation and weight. Hard shell helmets prioritise durability and impact resistance.
