10 Speed Cassettes

(19 products)

10 speed cassettes remain a reliable choice for many road bikes, mountain bikes and commuter setups.

Our range includes Shimano and SRAM 10 speed cassettes, as well as other brands.

When replacing a cassette, ensure it matches your 10 speed chain, rear derailleur and shifter, as well as your freehub type for proper compatibility.

10 Speed Cassette Compatibility

A 10 speed cassette must be paired with a 10 speed chain, rear derailleur and shifter.

Each drivetrain speed uses different sprocket spacing, so mixing components can result in poor shifting performance.

Most 10 speed cassettes are compatible with Shimano and SRAM HG-style freehubs.

Choosing the Right Gear Range

10 speed cassettes are available in various tooth ranges depending on riding style.

  • Smaller ranges (e.g. 11–28T) provide tight gear steps for road bikes and flatter roads.
  • Wider ranges (e.g. 11–36T) make climbing easier and are common on mountain bikes.

However, if you run a single front chainring, then you'll need a much wider range (such as 11-48T). This is common on mountain bikes and, now, on lifestyle/commuter bikes like the Giant Roam and Giant Fastroad.

Selecting the correct range depends on how steep your terrain is, fitness and rear derailleur compatibility.

That last one is import, because:

Derailleurs come in different sizes. Short cage for small cassettes, mid and long cage for bigger cassettes.

When to Replace a 10 Speed Cassette

Cassettes wear over time as the chain contacts the teeth. Signs of wear include skipping under load, inconsistent shifting or visible tooth damage.

Replacing a worn cassette alongside a new chain helps maintain smooth drivetrain performance.

FAQs

Will a 10 speed cassette fit my bike?

If your current cassette is 10-speed, then it will. Your chain, derailleur and shifter must also be 10-speed.

If you're wanting to use a bigger cassette, check the max. sprocket size on your rear derailleur to ensure compatibility.

Can I upgrade from 9 speed to 10 speed?

Yes but it involves changing every single drivetrain part to 10-speed.

This means new shifters, chain, cassette, derailleurs and cranks.

When should I replace a 10 speed cassette?

Replace your cassette when shifting becomes inconsistent, the chain slips under power or when fitting a new chain.

This is because the chain and cassette wear together. If you use a new chain with an old cassette, the won't mesh together smoothly.
