WINTER CYCLING JACKETS

Close

If you want to stay comfortable out on the road, getting the right clothing choices is crucial, whether it’s race day, training or commuting. As you are riding the body will generate heat, however, retaining that heat while stopping the rain and wind from getting in will be your objective. Therefore, you must have the most appropriate jacket before going out.

WEARING SEVERAL THIN LAYERS WORKS BETTER THAN ONE THICK LAYER. Each layer has a purpose, so instead of being constrained by the elements, you can add or subtract layers as needed to adapt to the environment.

LAYER 1: THE BASE LAYER

This is the first layer, and because it’s in direct contact with your skin, it helps regulate your body temperature while keeping it dry. Choose Base Layers made from fabrics like polyester or nylon and avoid cotton as it soaks up sweat.

Examples of base layers are:

LAYER 2: THE INSULATION AND WARMTH LAYER

While riding, your body produces heat that is trapped by the insulation layer and retained for as long as possible.

Examples of mid-layer garments are:

LAYER 3: THE INSULATION AND PROTECTION LAYER

Your outer layer serves as protection against the elements by being water/wind resistant while maintaining breathability.

The idea is to get a breathable jacket that can release moisture from your body while being water-resistant to keep you dry.

Examples in our range are:

The idea of layering is to trap the heat you produce inside while keeping you dry from the outside, however, it is important to remember that your body’s ability to produce heat decreases the longer you ride. So carry an extra layer to wear for those final kilometres of your ride.
