Bike Cassettes

(112 products)

Bike cassettes are a key drivetrain component that determine your gear range and shifting performance. Our collection includes 8-12 speed cassettes for road bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes, compatible with Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo and microSHIFT systems.

Choosing the correct cassette depends on your drivetrain speed, freehub type and preferred gear range. Always match your cassette to your chain, derailleur and shifter for smooth and reliable shifting.

What Is a Bike Cassette?

A bike cassette is the cluster of sprockets mounted to the rear wheel hub. It works with the chain, rear derailleur and crankset to control gear selection and pedalling resistance.

The tooth range (for example, 11–28T or 11–32T) determines how easy or hard it is to pedal in different conditions. Larger sprockets make climbing easier. Smaller sprockets allow higher speeds on flat terrain.

Matching Cassette Speed

Your cassette must match the number of speeds in your drivetrain.

For example:

  • An 11-speed cassette must be used with an 11-speed chain and shifter.
  • A 10-speed cassette must match a 10-speed drivetrain.

Each speed uses different sprocket spacing. Mixing components will result in poor shifting performance.

Choosing the Right Gear Range

Cassettes are available in different tooth ranges depending on riding style.

  • Smaller ranges (e.g. 11–32T) are common on road bikes.
  • Wider ranges (e.g. 10–52T) are common on mountain bikes.

Selecting the right range depends on terrain, fitness level and riding style.

Freehub Body Compatibility

Your freehub must match your cassette type.

  • Shimano / SRAM HG fits most 8–11 speed cassettes.
  • SRAM XD and XDR are used for certain 11 and 12-speed systems.
  • Shimano MicroSpline is required for Shimano 12-speed MTB cassettes.
  • Campagnolo cassettes require Campagnolo freehubs.

Confirm your hub standard before purchasing.

Brand Compatibility

Cassette spacing and design vary by manufacturer.

Shimano and SRAM are often compatible in lower speeds but may differ at 11 and 12-speed levels. Campagnolo uses its own spacing system. Always confirm compatibility across cassette, bike chain and rear derailleur.

FAQs

How do I know which cassette fits my bike?

There are 3 things to check:

  • How many back gears or sprockets you have. This is the 'speed' of your cassette.
  • Your current cassette size. There will be numbers stamped onto each sprocket.
  • Your freehub type.

When should I replace a bike cassette?

Cassettes should be replaced when teeth become worn or shifting becomes inconsistent.

If when you're pedalling, the chain skips or jumps the casette needs to be replaced.

When replacing a cassette, the chain should also be replaced.

Can I upgrade to a larger cassette range?

You may be able to increase your gear range, but compatibility depends on rear derailleur capacity and freehub type.
