If you ride in a bunch regularly, look for a set where the rear unit includes a group ride or proximity mode. This lower-intensity pulse setting keeps you visible to cars, without dazzling the rider behind you.
Mounting Your Front and Rear Bike Lights
Most front lights in our sets use a silicone band or bracket system that fits round and flat handlebars. The rear units will normally strap around a standard round seatpost, though riders with aero or D-shaped seatposts should check the specific mount system before buying.
Out-front mounts are worth considering if you are running a bike computer: they position the light below or alongside the computer unit, keeping the cockpit clean without stacking accessories on the same section of bar. Saddle-rail clips are a great secondary mounting option if you have a seatpost setup that doesn’t leave much room for the standard clamp.
Charging and Looking After Both Units
The main thing that shortens light life is storage. Leaving a lithium battery fully flat or fully charged for weeks at a time degrades the cells faster than regular use ever will. If you are putting the lights away for a few weeks, top both up to around half charge before they sit.
Always check that the rubber charging port cover is properly seated after each ride, especially after wet weather. Charging ports are usually where water finds its way in and it’s a major reason we see for lights breaking. A quick wipe of the lens after a muddy or dusty ride keeps output at full strength.
Dry both units out of the way of direct sunlight or heaters. Beyond that, read over the manufacturer's care instructions for your specific model, as some coatings and membranes have particular requirements.
How to Choose Your Front and Rear Bike Lights
The most practical starting point is your most common ride. Daily commuters who are mostly on lit streets and paths can get everything they need from a compact mid-range set without paying for lumen output they will rarely use. Riders who push into darker territory on weekends, or who ride through winter before sunrise, are better off with a set with more front output and a smarter rear unit.
