Cable Locks
(50 products)Cable bike locks are the most lightweight, flexible and easy to transport, as they're made of thin steel strands coated in a plastic or vinyl to protect your frame. The thicker, the better. We recommend a cable lock for low-risk areas, or short-durations, such as parking your bike outside the local cafe while you take a pitstop, or in an area such as a school bike garage.

What Is a Cable Lock?
A cable lock is a lightweight, flexible security solution made from braided steel cables, often coated with a protective vinyl or plastic layer.
It's a popular option for cyclists who want a simple, portable way to secure their bikes during short stops.
- Lightweight and Portable: Easy to carry and coil fits in a backpack or wraps around your bike frame.
- Flexible Design: Great for locking your frame and wheels to various objects like poles or bike racks.
- Affordable: Generally more budget-friendly than U-locks or chain locks.
- Ideal for Low-Risk Areas: Perfect for quick errands or use in areas with low theft risk.

Security Considerations
A cable lock for bikes offers convenience but is best used in:
- Low-theft areas
- Short stops where you're nearby
- As a secondary lock, securing wheels or accessories while a stronger lock protects the frame
- For kids' bikes, scooters, or strollers
Since smaller diameter cable locks can be cut with bolt cutters, they’re not recommended for long-term or overnight parking in high-risk areas. Larger diameter cable locks can still be cut albeit will take more time.

What to Look For in Cable Locks
When choosing a cable lock for your bike, consider:
- Cable thickness: Thicker cables offer more resistance to cutting
- Length: Make sure it’s long enough to reach around your frame and secure anchor points
- Lock style: Choose between key or combination locking mechanisms. Key locks come with multiple keys. On most combination locks, the combination code can be set (and re-set) to whatever 4 digit number you prefer.
- Protective coating on the cable prevents scratching your bike frame.
- Mounting system: Some cable locks include brackets to attach the lock to your bike when not in use.

Cable Lock Options
Our most inexpensive cable lock is the OnGuard OG 5817 Combination. It's designed for low-risk areas and short stops because of its thinner 8mm diameter cable.
For a more robust option, consider the Giant Surelock Flex 12mm and Surelock Flex 15mm cable locks.
And one of the most robust cable locks in our range is the ABUS Tresorflex Steel-O-Flex cable lock.
