What's the difference between an MTB jersey and a road jersey?
Road jerseys are cut tight for aerodynamics and have rear pockets; MTB jerseys are looser for mobility and to fit protective gear, with tougher fabrics and reinforced stitching for trail conditions. If you mostly ride trails, an MTB jersey will be more comfortable and last longer.
Short sleeve, 3/4 or long sleeve?
Short sleeve suits hot, humid riding and pairs well with a UPF rating for the Australian summer. Long sleeve adds sun protection and guards your arms against branches and trail rash — and breathable fabrics mean you don't necessarily ride hotter. 3/4 sleeve sits in between and works well with elbow pads. Many riders own more than one.
Loose fit or race fit?
Loose (relaxed) fit gives more room for movement and pads, and is what most trail and enduro riders prefer. Race fit is closer-cut and better for cross-country racing where a flapping jersey costs you. Fox's Defend runs relaxed, Flexair runs slightly more fitted.
Do I need an MTB-specific jersey for Australian conditions?
