Our collection of mountain bike shoes below includes Shimano mountain bike shoes, Fox Union MTB shoes and other brands.

All of these shoes will have a 2-bolt cleat and they'll be compatible with any brand of mountain bike pedal.

Just note that the shoes don't come with cleats but the pedals do. So if you're buying shoes only, you'll need to buy cleats too or take them off your old pair of shoes.

Shimano mountain bike shoes.

These shoes will always be labelled as SPD. Shimano Pedalling Dynamics.

So, when you see the SPD logo these are: mountain bike shoes, indoor cycling shoes and gravel shoes.

Shimano mountain bike shoes have 2 letters that indicate what that shoe range is designed for.

Example:

The letters XC indicate this shoe range is designed for cross-country mountain biking. These shoes have a stiff undersole (for max power transfer) and a focus on reducing weight.

The number after the XC indicates the model.

So the Shimano XC1 is the entry point in the XC range. Then it's the XC3, XC5, XC7 and XC9 (the best).

Next, we've got the GE (gravity enduro) range.

These shoes are designed for much more rugged terrain and riding (like DH, Enduro and heavy-duty Trail). 

These shoes are heavier, with a broader toe box and wider profile.

Think skate shoes.

GE shoes have more flex in the soles; delivering more control on technical descents.

 

Fox mountain bike shoes.

Fox mountain bike shoes are called the Union.

In clipless (or clip-in) shoes:

Fox does the Union BOA and the Union Clipless.

The Union BOA has 2 x BOA dials that allow riders to fine tune the tension across the upper and mid-foot. And it includes arch support options.

The Union Clipless has laces and a broad upper strap.

Then we have the Union Flat shoes:

At the top is the BOA Flat.

Then there's 2 lace options; the Union Flat and Union Canvas.
