Bike Training Wheels

(9 products)

Bike training wheels are the perfect way to help kids gain confidence when learning to ride. Designed to provide extra stability, training wheels keep a bike upright while children develop their balance, coordination, and pedalling skills.

Most training wheels are adjustable to fit different wheel sizes and can be raised or removed as your child becomes more confident on two wheels. They’re built with sturdy brackets and durable wheels to handle the bumps and wobbles of first-time riding.

What are bike training wheels?

Bike training wheels are additonal wheels that attach to the rear axle of a child’s bicycle to provide extra stability while they learn to ride.

They help young riders gain confidence and balance without the risk of tipping over. Making them a popular option for beginners transitioning to two wheels.

In short, training wheels give kids a safe and supportive way to develop the skills they need for confident bike riding.

  • Provides confidence and security while learning.
  • Reduces the risk of falls during early stage riding.
  • Lets kids focus on pedalling and steering before mastering balance.
  • A gradual step towards riding a two-wheeler.

Can training wheels be put on any bike?

Kids’ Bikes (12”–20”).

Most smaller children’s bikes are designed to fit training wheels.

They usually have the correct rear axle length and frame clearance for mounting brackets.

Larger Kids’ Bikes (24”+) and Adult Bikes.

Standard training wheels generally don’t fit these sizes.

The frames and wheels are too large, and the weight of the rider would put too much stress on the wheels and brackets.

Balance Bikes.

These are designed without pedals (to teach balance first), so training wheels aren’t compatible.

Special Frames.

Some bikes with disc brakes, rear suspension, or unusual frame designs will not have the right clearance or mounting points for training wheels.

Training wheels are best suited for kids’ pedal bikes between 12” and 20” wheel sizes.

If you’re looking at larger bikes or unique setups, you might need specialised stabilisers designed for bigger frames, but these are less common.

Should I put training wheels on my kids bike?

Ideally, you shouldn't use bike training wheels (if it can be avoided).

We get lots of kids through our stores and the ones that can ride - like they've been born on bikes - haven't used training wheels.

They've started on balance bikes then made the jump to a pedal bike.

Parents may consider using for the short term to learn the pedalling action.
