Cannondale Kids Trail 24
The Cannondale Trail 24 is a kids mountain bike (MTB). The 2 words to describe the Trail 24 are robust and versatile.
In this preview, we'll explain who should consider buying the Trail 24 and the key components.
Who is the Trail 24 designed for?
It's designed for kids who are at least 8 years old (or tall 7 year olds). The Trail's low frame means smaller riders shouldn't have a problem either.
As a mountain bike, it's designed to be robust.
So, it'll suit kids who are a little more adventurous with their riding.
Riders who spend time on easy off-road trails, dirt and gravel paths, plus the usual paved bike paths in suburbia and the city.
Cannondale Trail 24 details.
Cannondale are masters at designing aluminium frames.
For a mountain bike, the Trail 24 is lightweight. Slim tubes and better quality aluminium alloy help reduce the weight.
Fast rolling Kenda tyres are perfect for a combination of pavement and dirt.
They make the Cannondale feel lighter and more responsive.
Front suspension smooths out bumps and impacts.
It also helps stabilise the steering; making the front end of the Trail 24 feel calmer and more controlled.
Next, the gears.
A single front gear is paired to 8 rear gears.
It might look complicated but we promise that it's easy for kids to use.
A couple of rules with gears:
- Never pedal back and change gears.
- Always pedal forwards and change gears.
And because there's no front gears, it keeps the whole system super simple.
There's a gear shifter on the right hand side of the handlebar.
Riders need to only focus on rotating the handlebar grip:
- Rotating it up goes into a higher number (harder gear). Good for going downhill and picking up speed.
- Rotating down goes into a lighter gear which makes climbing hills easier.
Cannondale have used mechanical disc brakes on the Trail 24.
Disc brakes deliver more stopping power and better control than rim brakes that most kids bikes use.
Plus, they are so much more robust.
The brakes are controlled by Promax alloy brake levers that are designed for small hands.
But if they are still not close enough, they do feature further adjustability where we can position them even closer to the handlebar; allowing smaller riders to control speed with more confidence.
