Giant MTB

You've probably arrived here because you want to know more about Giant's mountain bike range.

We literally have the largest collection of Giant mountain bikes in Victoria.

So, we're in a pretty good position to tell you about 'em.

And there's a lot of options and differences.

If you can't tell a Giant Talon from a Giant Trance, we've put together a basic guide.

Click the button or scroll past the catalogue of bikes below.

View as

Giant kids & youth mountain bikes.

The Giant Talon 20 and Giant STP 20 are both examples of 20-inch mountain bikes.

These are suitable for riders from 6 years old.

Giant's STP (Street-Park-Trail) is designed for more rugged off-road use and so it gets more robust components such as hydraulic disc brakes.

The same goes for the Giant's 24-inch mountain bikes.

The Giant Talon 24 and Giant Talon 24 Disc are examples of above average quality recreational mountain bikes.

The Talon 24 Disc has mechanical disc brakes for kids who want to occasionally ride easy off-road trails.

And the STP 24 and STP 26 are examples of slightly more rugged mountain bikes. Designed for kids who are a little hard on their bikes or prefer to ride off-road often.

Giant Faith.

The Giant Faith is a performance dual-suspension mountain bike designed for kids from 8 years old.

Giant has designed the Faith to specifically ride off-road terrain and features (jumps, drop-offs, rock gardens…) with calm and confident handling and lots of stability.

They are the perfect option for young riders who want to develop their mountain bike skills.

Giant has 2 Faiths:

  • Faith 24
  • Faith

The Faith 24 is the smaller 24-inch bike. And the Faith uses a bigger frame for taller riders and also larger wheels (27.5-inch front and 26-inch rear).

Giant ATX.

The Giant ATX is an entry-level recreational mountain bike that's designed for pre-teens, teens and adults.

It's designed for general fitness, riding to/from school or with family and mates.

You can use the Giant ATX on rail trails, pavement and light, compacted dirt/gravel paths.

It's not designed for rigorous or frequent mountain biking.

And because it has rim brakes (also called V-brakes), it's not as suitable if you ride in hilly/elevated areas or if need to ride in all weather conditions.

Other excellent options are:

Giant Talon.

There are 4 models that make up the Talon family.

The range starts at the Giant Talon 4.

It's designed for riders who are 90% on bike paths and dirt/gravel trails. With the rare (easy) off-road adventure.

Moving into the Giant Talon 3, riders get hydraulic disc brakes and slightly better gears (8 speed instead of 7).

The component upgrades allow riders to control the Talon better in wet/dry conditions and off-road.

Talon 2 riders get a suspension upgrade and better gears (9 speed now). The latest Shimano CUES gears are smooth shifting and robust.

This model will appeal to riders who want a mountain bike that has minimum capability for some off-road use.

And lastly the Talon 1 has been designed as the most capable off-road mountain bike in the Talon range.

Giant Fathom.

The Fathom is the bigger brother to the Giant's Talon.

Think of the Fathom as an evolution of the Talon for those who want a more aggressive mountain bike.

You should consider the Fathom if:

  • You're spending 90% of your time on mountain bike trails.
  • You don't want a dual-suspension mountain bike.

The Fathom is so different in handling to the Talon.

It's more stable at speed on rougher trails. It's got calmer, more confident handling too.

Click on the button below to access more information on the Fathom.

Giant Anthem.

The Giant Anthem is the lightest and most responsive dual-suspension mountain bike.

It's not designed for rough tracks.

But it is designed to cover ground quickly, fast handling and be very responsive to rider effort.

In short, it's comfortable racing and going fast.

There are 3 Anthem models to choose from and they are all made from carbon fibre.

For more information, click the Anthem button below.

Giant Trance.

The Trance is a Trail bike.

It's the Swiss Army knife. If you were going to buy 1 bike, this would be the Trance.

That's because the Trance performs in the 2 most important aspects of riding: descending and climbing.

It's super stable and calm over rough chatter and impacts which lends you confidence.

And the suspension doesn't waste rider energy. It's responsive to rider input which means less lag in climbing up trails.

But:

Giant has got 2 Trance platforms:

  • Trance X
  • Trance

The Trance X has more suspension (150mm/140mm) and the Trance has less (130/120mm).

For aggressive riders or those who want more stability, the Trance X is the one.

For those who prefer agility and response, the Trance will deliver.

And anytime you see the word Advanced means the frame is made from carbon fibre.

Giant Reign.

Giant designed and engineered the Reign as an Enduro mountain bike.

It's designed for steep, raw and technically challenging terrain.

Ridden as fast as possible.

So you should consider the Reign if you're:

  • Progressing to riding this sort of terrain.
  • Comfortable at high speed and your riding is aggressive.
  • A heavier rider that needs more suspension to support your weight.
  • Pushing your current trail bike to the limit.
