GT Stomper Prime 24
The GT Stomper Prime 24 is a lightweight, comfortable and calm handling 24-inch bike that's designed for riders at least 8 years old (or tall 7 years).
In this preview, we'll explain the Stomper 24 in a little more detail; what it is, why you should consider it and the key components.
What is the Stomper Prime 24?
GT designed the Stomper 24 to be a versatile kids 24-inch mountain bike.
It's not designed for super technical, aggressive mountain biking.
Think of it as a fast SUV, not a off-road 4WD.
It's easy to ride on pavement and suburban bike paths. And it's very capable on smooth dirt and gravel trails.
Kids upgrading to this bigger size will also find the calm handling and extra stability very confidence inspiring, once they adapt to it.
Stomper Prime 24 details.
Front suspension not only smooths out bumps and impacts on rough pavement and trails, it also adds calm to the front steering.
Young riders tend to react too quickly to obstacles and this can sometimes lead to accidents.
GT designed the steering angle to be slightly slower and more predictable, so over-corrections in steering don't lead to mishaps.
Good quality linear pull brakes (or V-brakes) are used on the Stomper Prime.
The brakes are paired to kids-sized brake levers
These can be easily adjusted for smaller hands so they sit closer to handlebars. This gives kids more confidence controlling their speed.
Next, we have the gears. The Stomper Prime 24 has a total of 7 gears.
GT has designed the gears to be super simple by removing multiple front gears. There's a single front chainring and that's it.
The simplicity also means a lot less maintenance.
All the gear action happens at the back. Riders have 7 gears to choose from; so the Prime 24 can handle a range of different gradients.
Kids operate the gears using a twist grip shifter. Each gear number is clearly marked.
As a quick summary:
- Gear 1 the easiest gear and is used for climbing.
- Gear 7 is top gear which is used for going downhill.
- Gears 3 and 4 are neutral gears for cruising on flatter paths.
