Haro Flightline JR 24

In our massive 24-inch kids mountain bike range, the Haro Flightline 24 stands out as a lightweight, versatile and super easy to ride mountain bike.

That’s because it’s one of those super well designed kids mountain bikes; almost perfect ergonomics and calm, stable handling (perfect for learners).

Highlights

  • Low centre of gravity gives riders more stability and better control.
  • Shimano 7-Speed gears with MegaCog, makes climbing hills easy.
  • Easy to operate gears.
  • Aluminium alloy components keep the weight down.

Who is the Flightline 24 for?

Haro designed the Flightline 24 for kids who are at least 7 years old.

Because it has gears and hand brakes (no foot brakes), riders should at least be comfortable with using their hands to control speed.

But, to be honest, even though the Flightline 24 is more advanced than what kids are usually accustomed to riding, they learn so quickly.

We've had kids who have never used hand brakes or gears that adapt to both by the time they are ready to walk out of the shop.

The Flightline 24 is suitable for kids who are riding pavement, rail trails and venturing off-road on smooth dirt and gravel trails.

The Frame

The Flightline 24 frame is made from lightweight aluminium alloy.

And it’s all about the length and the angles; in short - the geometry.

Haro designed the Flightline 24 so that it has a low centre of gravity.

The slight kink in the top bar allows them to keep the seat tube on the shorter side.

Haro Flightline 24 Blue Seat Height

This has 2 benefits.

It means riders who are between the 20-inch and 24-inch, can fit onto the Flightline 24 with more ease (because the seat goes down lower).

And the low centre of  gravity gives the Flightline a more “grounded” feel especially at speed.

While kids are learning it will give them more confidence because the bike doesn’t feel top heavy and cumbersome to move around.

The Gears

Haro has also kept the gears simple and easy to use for kids.

Haro Flightline 24 Blue Gears

There’s 1 front gear that is paired to 7 rear gears. This means there’s a LOT less moving parts (that also require servicing) such as the front gear shifter, gear cable and front derailleur.

Haro Flightline 24 Blue Suspension

As you can see from the image above, near the pedals, there’s no complicated moving parts. It's clean, simple and easy to maintain.

And notice the largest cog (the black one) above.

It’s Shimano’s MegaRange cog.

It simply means, kids have a much easier gear to climb up hills with.

So if you ride near hills, this will make riding up a lot more manageable.

The Other Parts

Shimano’s grip shifter design (see below) requires a twist of the wrist to change gears (there’s 7 of them on the Flightline 24).

It’s also worth mentioning that Haro has used all aluminium alloy components to shed as much weight. This includes rims, stem, bars, cranks and seat post.

Front suspension helps absorb impacts from road and unsealed surfaces too, making the Flightline 24 a lot more versatile for local bike paths, dirt rail trails and the occasional camping trip.

Haro has also applied some common sense with the tyres.

They are the perfect all rounder.

On concrete surfaces there’s minimal drag and tyre buzz, yet on unsealed dirt and gravel the tread provides plenty of grip.
