The Bell 5Fifty Spherical is Bell's flagship open-face mountain bike helmet, built for aggressive trail and enduro riding. It has Bell's Spherical rotational protection developed with Mips, a motorsport-inspired ventilation system, a magnetic FIDLOCK buckle and a mount for an action camera or light.
It replaces the Super Air Spherical at the top of Bell's half-shell range.
Spherical technology, powered by Mips
Most crashes hit the head at an angle, which makes it rotate as well as stop. Bell's Spherical system is designed to reduce that rotation. The liner is made in two parts, an inner and an outer, that work like a ball and socket. In an angled impact, the outer part can rotate around the inner part, which is designed to reduce the rotational motion passed to your head.
Because the rotation happens between the two foam layers rather than through a thin plastic liner, there's nothing extra sitting against your head. The liner combines EPS and EPP foam inside a Fusion in-moulded polycarbonate shell.
Dual Flow ventilation
Enduro riding means long, slow climbs followed by hard descents, so a helmet has to keep you cool at low speed. Bell's Dual Flow Ventilation uses large intake vents and internal channels to push air over your head, and a diffuser at the back, borrowed from motorsport, helps pull warm air out. A Sweat Guide at the brow channels sweat away from your forehead and eyewear.
Fit and comfort
- Float Race Fit System: a 360-degree fit system with a dial to adjust tension, plus height adjustment, so the helmet sits level and stable on rough ground.
- FIDLOCK magnetic buckle: opens and closes one-handed, even with gloves on.
- No-Twist Tri-Glides: keep the straps flat and in place around your ears.
- Ionic+ padding: antimicrobial padding that controls odour and dries quickly.
Visor, eyewear and camera mount
The visor has three positions: drop it to block the sun, or push it up to fit goggles underneath. There's storage for your eyewear when you take it off on the climb. A quick-release mount takes an action camera or a helmet light.
Sizing
| Size | Head circumference |
|---|---|
| Small | 52 to 56cm |
| Medium | 55 to 59cm |
| Large | 58 to 62cm |
How to measure:
Wrap a soft tape measure around your head about 2.5cm (one finger-width) above your eyebrows, at the widest point.
If you measure in the overlap between two sizes, try both: the right one sits level and feels snug before you tighten the dial.
Every helmet we sell is fitted and sized at the time of purchase. Compare it with the rest of our MTB helmets.
