Giant Defy Advanced 2 (2025)
Giant's Defy Advanced 2 is designed for riders who want a reliable and robust carbon-fibre fibre road bike that's primary focus is comfortable ergonomics, stable handling and is versatile enough to be ridden on all road surfaces.
In this preview, we'll explain the Defy Advanced in a little more detail and the Defy Advanced 2 build kit and exactly what you're getting.
What is the Defy Advanced 2?
Giant's Defy Advanced 2 is a carbon-fibre road bike with hydraulic disc brakes and the latest Shimano 105 12-speed group-set (derailleurs, shifters, chain etc.).
Note:
When you see the word "Advanced" in the model name, this indicates that the bike uses a carbon-fibre frame.
Out of the 3 main types of road bikes, the Defy Advanced is at the comfort end and is known as an Endurance road bike.
The most important goal for the Defy is comfort. As such, the Defy uses flex-zones in seat stays, seat post and handlebar.
Who should consider the Giant Defy Advanced 2?
Riders who should consider the Defy Advanced 2 build are those who are:
- Buying their first road bike and want easy handling and comfortable ergonomics.
- Upgrading from an old aluminium road bike and want the comfort and better handling that's delivered by a carbon-fibre frame.
And:
- You'd like a road bike that's comfortable on different types of road surfaces; from hard-pack dirt to smooth bitumen.
- Prefer a relaxed riding position. Something that's easier on the hands, neck and back.
Why should you consider the Defy Advanced 2?
Handling.
The Defy Advanced 2 stands out for its remarkable stability and smooth control.
Its well-balanced steering geometry and longer wheelbase create a composed, confidence-inspiring ride. Whether carving through high-speed corners or rolling over rough roads, the Defy Advanced 2 remains planted and predictable.
The longer wheelbase acts as a stabilising force, minimising road chatter and giving the bike a road-hugging feel—especially at speed.
Ergonomics.
The Defy Advanced 2 is designed for all-day comfort, making it accessible to a wide range of riders.
Unlike aggressive race bikes that force a low, aerodynamic position, the Defy Advanced 2 encourages a more upright posture. This reduces strain on the arms, shoulders, and lower back—perfect for long rides or newer riders easing into endurance cycling.
A proper bike fit is still key, but the Defy's relaxed geometry naturally puts less demand on the rider’s body.
Comfort.
Every element of the Defy Advanced 2 is engineered for a smoother ride.
Strategic flex zones in the frame absorb road vibrations, while thin seat-stays and a flattened top tube act like built-in suspension.
Giant’s D-Fuse seat post flexes more than a traditional round post, reducing fatigue through the lower back.
The same D-Fuse technology extends to the handlebars, offering 40% more flex in a downward direction—enhancing comfort while maintaining stiffness for sprints and climbs.
The bike rolls on 33.5mm wide tyres, with clearance for up to 38mm, making it incredibly versatile. Whether you're cruising on smooth tarmac, tackling rough country roads, or exploring light gravel, the Defy Advanced 2 delivers confidence and control.
The Defy Advanced 2 Build
It's worth noting that the Defy Advanced 2 is the most affordable performance build-kit.
At its heart are the latest Shimano 105 12-speed components. 105 has been designed for serious enthusiasts and recreational riders who want access to performance-level shifting.
And at this point in time, it's the best mechanical group-set that Shimano makes.
12-speed components deliver smoother shifting and a wider gear range. Without nerding out on gear ratios, this new 12-speed group-set has the widest gear range made for 105 - ever.
It means that you can comfortably ride up steep inclines and find a comfortable gear over rolling and undulating terrain.
The Giant P-R2 alloy wheelset is built for reliability. They roll on smooth, sealed bearings for long-lasting durability.
Designed as a workhorse wheelset, it balances strength and rolling efficiency for everyday riding.
Plus, the P-R2's are setup tubeless-ready (with sealant, tape and tyres), eliminating inner tubes for improved puncture resistance and a smoother ride.
For puncture that won't seal you would use a tubeless tyre plug like this Muc-Off tubeless plug.
