The Giant Revolt 1 is a gravel bike made for riders who want one bike that can do many things. You can use it on paved roads, gravel paths, or dirt tracks. The aluminium frame is strong and lightweight, and the carbon fork helps absorb bumps for a smoother ride.
The bike is designed to feel stable and easy to control. The riding position is more upright and comfortable, making it suitable for longer rides.
What is the Giant Revolt?
Giant designed the Revolt to be a purpose-built gravel bike. Not a road bike with wider tyres. This means from
Even though it's at home on gravel, it's equally capable on smooth dirt, suburban bike paths and popular commuting routes.
That's because - as a gravel bike - the Revolt has some really important design and handling characteristics.
First, the Revolt is a very stable bike, especially on loose or uneven surfaces.
- The bike has a longer wheelbase (or length), which helps it stay steady when riding at higher speeds.
- It's lower to the ground. Keeping your weight closer to the ground, improving balance and confidence when cornering.
- You can run wider tyres (53mm max.) giving you more grip and a smoother ride on gravel and dirt.
- The riding position is more relaxed, helping you stay comfortable and in control on long rides.
Second, it's very comfortable.
- The wider tyres absorb surface vibrations better than narrow tyres.
- Giant's D-Fuse (D-shaped) seat post flexes more than a round seat post. This absorbs road vibrations. Think of it as suspension under your seat.
- The new D-Fuse handlebar does the same thing. It flexes downward, absorbing impacts and vibrations instead of your hands and arms.
Who is the Revolt 1 for?
The Revolt 1 is the top-spec build with an aluminium frame. After the Revolt 1 is the Revolt Advanced 3; the entry point into the carbon fibre bikes.
Side note:
In Giant's range, if there's an "Advanced" in the name of the model, then it uses a carbon frame.
Therefore, you should consider the Revolt 1 if you:
- Want a bike that is well-equipped with affordable performance-level components.
- Want a bike that is suitable for a wide variety of surfaces. You don't want to be locked into riding just roads.
- Are buying your first gravel bike and you want to buy a build-spec and parts that don't need upgrading soon.
Revolt 1 build
At the heart of the Revolt 1 is Shimano's GRX gravel components.
There are 2 front gears paired to 10 rear gears. These ratios are suitable for riding on flat, undulating and steep terrain.
GRX components are designed to be more robust than Shimano's road components. They are also designed for more severe conditions; dirt, grit and mud.
Next, the Revolt 1 comes with Shimano GRX hydraulic disc brakes.
Out of all the different brake types, hydraulic disc brakes need the least maintenance. Brake lever feel is smooth, which makes speed easy to control in wet and dry conditions. And it minimises hand fatigue.
The Revolt 1 comes standard with tubeless wheels.
Instead of a tube inside the tyre, there's liquid. We call this tubeless sealant. That's because it seals most punctures.
The advantage of tubeless is it enhances ride comfort, improves grip and puncture protection. Plus, tubeless tyres roll a little faster compared to tubed tyres.
Lastly, all Revolt gravel bikes have a 2 positions to the rear wheel. The rear wheel can be moved back to make the Revolt longer by 10mm or forward to make it shorter.
Longer makes the Revolt even more stable. It's better for off-road, unstable surfaces. It's also better for taller riders due to improved sizing. In this position riders can use tyres up to 53mm wide.
