For 2026, the Giant Talon E+ has numerous updates. The motor, battery, new Shimano gears and a completely redesigned frame are all new. All these improvements make the Talon E+ more modern and far more capable than it's ever been.
This preview explains in a little more detail what the Talon E+ is, who should consider it. Plus, we'll explain the major areas of improvement.
What is the Giant Talon E+?
The Giant Talon E+ is a mid-drive electric mountain bike.
It's got wide fast rolling tyres, robust wheels and gears, a high-torque motor and larger battery.
All of these parts make the Talon E+ more versatile, durable and capable of riding varied terrain.
As such, it's designed for suburban bike paths, rail trails, fire roads and easy mountain bike trails.
The Talon E+ is powered by Giant's new SyncDrive Sport 2 motor. And this is paired to Giant's latest EnergyPak battery. Both of which will be covered later.
Who should consider buying the new Talon E+?
Riders who want an e-bike that isn't going to limit where they can ride. You could be a new rider searching for a comfortable and versatile electric bike.
You could also be wanting a commuter e-bike. Something you can load up with panniers and pannier bags.
The Talon E+ is an extremely versatile e-bike that isn't limited to one type of application.
The Giant Talon E+ Build
The ALUXX-grade aluminium frame keeps the Giant Talon E+ light and strong
There is so much design effort that goes into making sure there's no excess frame material, heat treatment to improve durability, paint and overall finish.
Standout frame features include:
A tapered head tube for better frame stiffness. The extra weight of the battery and motor, means the frame has to cope with extra weight.
The tapered head tube adds strength to the front of the frame. Improving on-road and off-road handling.
The frame also accommodates a kickstand, the Giant KSA 40mm Direct Mount.
Giant SyncDrive Sport 2
The Giant SyncDrive Sport 2 motor delivers up to 75Nm of torque. This is a huge increase from the previous model's 50Nm.
Using PedalPlus 6-sensor technology, the motor constantly adapts to rider input and terrain.
Smart Assist technology automatically adjusts the motor power. It calculates the amount of torque, cadence, slope and speed.
Besides Smart Assist, riders get to choose from Eco, Tour, Active, Sport and Power.
A new battery
Giant's latest 430Wh battery is the best they've made.
Giant uses Panasonic to produce its batteries.
A sophisticated Battery Management System (BMS) continuously monitors and controls the temperature of each cell.
The BMS automatically adjusts the charge rate to prevent cell damage, which is a key factor in long-term battery durability.
The battery's casing is robust enough to withstand a 1 metre drop to concrete from any angle.
Talon E+'s new 430Wh battery is much slimmer and integrates into the frame more seamlessly.
It's physically not as wide either, so it looks more like a normal bike.
There are some batteries which are only designed for 350 complete charges. Most batteries are designed for 800-1,000 charge cycles. Giant's is designed for 2,300 charges.
From 0% to 100% is a charge cycle. So it's 2,300 of these before the battery starts losing some of its capacity. It's more than double what the competition can do.
New RideControl Dash 2 display
The Giant RideControl Dash 2, features a full-colour LCD display with excellent high-angle visibility.
Riders can choose from 5 support levels and easily monitor speed, battery level, time, cadence, speed and assist mode at a glance.
The new 1.5" display is clearer, with better visibility as you're looking down on the handlebar.
New Shimano CUES
CUES is brand new for 2026. It's Shimano's new mid-range and upper mid-range parts.
There's a single front gear that's paired to 9 rear gears. A wide 11–41T cassette is ideal for tackling climbs with electric assistance. An e-bike-optimised KMC chain ensures durability under higher torque loads.
Braking performance comes from Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors front and rear, delivering confident stopping power in all weather conditions.
