Hornit Cycle Helmet with LED Light

The Hornit kids bike helmet has a built-in rear LED light, so your child is easier to see on paths, footpaths and quiet streets.

It comes in two sizes for heads from 48 to 58cm, fits most children from about 3 years old, and is certified to the European (EN 1078) and US (CPSC) bike helmet standards, both accepted for bicycle helmets sold in Australia.

A built-in rear light

The LED sits at the back of the helmet, higher up than a light on the seatpost, where it's easier for drivers to see.

It has three modes: constant, slow flash and fast flash. It runs on replaceable button-cell batteries (2 x AG3), and Hornit quotes up to 10 hours on constant and 20 hours flashing.

The helmet light is an extra, not a replacement for proper bike lights. For riding at dusk or in low light, fit front and rear lights to the bike as well.

Sizing: measure first

How to measure:

Wrap a soft tape measure around your child's head about 2.5cm (one finger-width) above the eyebrows, at the widest part of the head. If the measurement falls within a size's range, that size will fit.

Between sizes?

If your child measures right at 53 or 54cm, choose the Medium and use the adjuster to tighten it. They'll grow into it rather than out of it.

Construction

The helmet has a tough, water-resistant ABS outer shell over an EPS foam liner.

The EPS liner absorbs the impact in a crash. The hard ABS shell resists everyday knocks and scuffs, which suits kids who drop their helmet on the ground or toss it in the car.

Replace any helmet after a crash or a hard impact, even if it looks undamaged. The foam can be compressed inside without showing on the outside.

Designs kids actually want to wear

Hornit designs its helmets so children want to put them on. The Lava design has a black, cracked basalt-look surface with red and white "magma" glowing through the cracks: bold without being loud.
