Orbea Terra H50 (2027)

The 2027 Orbea Terra H50 is an alloy gravel bike built on the same design as Orbea's carbon Terra.

It pairs a premium hydroformed aluminium frame with a full carbon fork, clears tyres up to 50mm wide, and runs Shimano's new CUES 2x10 drop-bar groupset with hydraulic disc brakes. It is built for mixed-surface riding, from sealed roads and rail trails to forest tracks and loaded weekend trips.

Carbon Terra features on an alloy frame

The H in H50 stands for Hydro, Orbea's hydroformed alloy frame.

Hydroforming shapes the tubes with high-pressure fluid, so each tube can be made thicker where it takes load and thinner where it doesn't. The Terra Hydro is also triple-butted, with three wall thicknesses along each tube, which saves weight without losing strength.

More important for most riders, the frame shares the practical features of the carbon Terra:

• 50mm tyre clearance, or 45mm with mudguards fitted.
• Rack and mudguard mounts, so it can be a commuter on weekdays and a touring bike on weekends.
• Extra mounts for bottles and bags.
• A UDH derailleur hanger. UDH is a universal standard, so a replacement is easy to find if you bend one on a trail. It also keeps future drivetrain upgrades open.

The fork is full carbon with a 12mm thru axle and a tapered steerer. A carbon fork takes some sting out of rough gravel and corrugations, so your hands and shoulders are less tired on long days.

Shimano CUES 10-speed

The H50 runs Shimano CUES U6030 hydraulic shift and brake levers, Shimano's newer drop-bar groupset for road and gravel. The crank has 50 and 34 tooth rings, paired with an 11-39T cassette.

Two chainrings give a wide gear range with small steps between gears. The lowest gear (34 x 39) is low enough for steep gravel climbs. The highest (50 x 11) is tall enough to keep pedalling on fast sealed descents. A single-ring gravel bike needs a very large cassette to cover the same range, which means bigger jumps between gears.

CUES uses Shimano's Linkglide system on the cassette and chain.

Linkglide is designed for durability.

The cassette and chain are built to last longer under load and in grit, rather than to shave grams. For a bike that will see dusty rail trails and wet winter commutes, that is the right trade.

Hydraulic disc brakes

Braking is Shimano hydraulic disc, with CUES levers and RS405 calipers. Hydraulic brakes need less hand force than cable discs and adjust themselves as the pads wear. That makes a real difference on long descents on loose surfaces, and on wet roads when you are carrying a load.

Wheels and tyres

The H50 rolls on tubeless-ready 700c alloy wheels with a 21mm internal rim width. The tyres are Vittoria Terreno T50 in 700 x 45mm, a mixed-surface tread with a smooth centre for pace and side knobs for grip in corners.

The stock tyres are the wire-bead Rigid version, which is not tubeless.

They are durable and puncture-tough, but they are heavier than tubeless tyres. Fitting tubeless-ready tyres is the single biggest upgrade you can make to how the bike rides. The rims are ready for it, and our workshop can do the conversion when you buy.

Comfort-focused cockpit

The cockpit is set up for long days as well as speed:

• Handlebar: the OC Gravel GR31 has 15mm of rise and a short 70mm reach, so the hoods sit a little higher and closer.
• Seatpost: carbon, 27.2mm. The thinner post flexes slightly over bumps.
• Saddle: the Fizik Terra Argo X7 has a short-nose design with a pressure relief channel, a popular choice for riders who spend time on the drops.
