What is the Instinct Powerplay?

Rocky Mountain designed the Instinct Powerplay for riders who want an electric MTB that's versatile, easy to ride with exceptional off-road handling.

It's suited to riders who want a bike that is easy to handle at low-speeds and stable at high speeds.

You may not be riding huge trail features, but you still want to try the occasional larger jump, drop-off or raw, sketchy line while still being confident the bike can handle it.

Natural Power Delivery

Rocky designed the power curve within the software to deliver the 108Nm smoothly. Allowing you as the rider to soft pedal around tight switchbacks or drop the hammer through a chunky, punchy, portion of trail.

Dyname 4.0 replicates and amplifies your power. And - most importantly - applies the power exactly as you would ride. Dyname delivery power in the most natural way possible.

And it's also the speed at which power is delivered.

It's one of the fastest at delivering power, thanks to the unique torque sensor design.

As soon as you apply pressure at the pedals, the motor senses it and starts delivering controlled power.

Power stops the instant you stop pedalling. This delivers better bike control pedalling into drop-offs, steep sections and jumps.

RIDE-4 adjustment system

The RIDE-4 adjustment system allows riders to quickly fine-tune their geometry and suspension with a pair of Allen keys.

There are 4 ways (4 positions) to adjust the Instinct Powerplay Alloy 30.

Each position adjusts the handling of the bike in a subtle way.

For example:

Position 1 is designed for aggressive downhill terrain. It lowers the Instinct Powerplay and lengthens the bike. This makes it extremely stable at high speeds.

Position 4 lifts the bike up and steepens the frame angles. This makes it easier to move around at low-speeds and tight trails.

Position 3 is neutral. It's the position your Instinct Powerplay A30 will most likely be in.
RIDE-4 makes the Instinct Powerplay super versatile. And able to be ridden on so many different types of terrain.

Make gradual, incremental changes, take notes, and be methodical. Don’t adjust in a hurry before a big ride. Take your time and enjoy the process.

In addition to RIDE-4 adjustable geometry, the Instinct Powerplay also has 2 chain-stay adjustments - long and short.

The out-of-the-box setup is in the short. For taller riders, or those who want the most stable handling bike, the long position is ideal.

Premium aluminium frame

Alloy FORM™ tubesets use premium materials to meet Rocky's strict requirements.
Each FORM™ tube that Rocky creates is engineered for its specific purpose within the frame, ensuring optimised strength and weight.

Material is removed where it's not required and added to areas where it is. This enhances the frame's strength-to-weight ratio. Delivering much better handling.

Size Specific Tune ensures that riders of all sizes get the right balance of small-bump compliance, mid-stroke support, and end-stroke progressiveness.

Rocky Mountain's design team does custom shock tunes based on real world field testing, and adjusts each tune for specific frame sizes.

Instinct Powerplay Alloy 30 Build

Starting with suspension.

A RockShox 35 Gold RL fork has larger 35mm diameter stanchions and delivers 150mm of travel.

This is paired to a RockShox Deluxe Select R rear shock that delivers 140mm of rear wheel travel.

Both suspension products use air pressure and rebound to fine tune how the bike feels.

The Alloy 30 build uses Shimano Deore 11-speed components

Deore is the most affordable of Shimano's performance mountain bike components.

Deore is excellent value for money because it delivers excellent performance in terms of smooth shifting and durability, without the extra cost of higher end components.

Shimano 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes use larger 203mm diameter rotors for extra stopping power.

WTB ST i30 double wall rims use a strong aluminium double-walled construction. And they can also be setup tubeless.

A Maxxis Minion DHF front tyre and Minion DHR II rear tyre are used on the Alloy 30 build. Both these tyres are exceptional at delivering grip through corners. The DHR II rear tyre has tread that prioritises braking traction.

The tyre allows riders to control their speed better while braking over loose terrain.
