Scott Lumen eRide 910

The Lumen eRide 910 is Scott's lightweight carbon trail eMTB. 130mm of travel front and rear, a premium HMX carbon frame, and a TQ HPR50 motor with a 360Wh battery.

The battery is hidden completely inside the down tube that most people won't clock it as an e-bike at all.

Complete weight sits around 17.6kg, which is closer to a heavy enduro bike than to a full-power eMTB.

That number matters more than it looks.

Full-power electric mountain bikes make 85–100Nm and weigh 23–25kg, and they ride accordingly:

Enormous on the climbs, planted and slightly bulldozer-ish on the way back down.

The Lumen makes 50Nm and 300W peak, and the whole bike is built around the idea that you should still be pedalling. On a fire road climb it feels like an extra pair of legs rather than a motorbike. On singletrack it steers, hops and changes direction like the analogue trail bike it's shaped like.

Who this bike is for

Riders who already ride well and want more laps and a little less effort.

If you want to sit in Turbo and let the bike do the work, buy a full-power eMTB (we'll happily point you at one).

If you want the ride quality of a 130mm carbon trail bike with 300W of peak assistance, against the 600W-plus a full-power eMTB delivers, this or the Rocky Mountain Instinct Powerplay SL are the ones.

The TQ HPR50 drive system

TQ's Harmonic Pin Ring motor is the quietest mainstream eMTB motor in production. There's no gear whine and effectively no drag once you're over the assist cut-out, so the bike still pedals properly on flat ground and on descents.

It's a compact unit too. 50Nm of torque, 300W peak, 250W nominal, and it complies with Australian pedelec rules with assistance tapering out at 25km/h.

The 360Wh battery is integrated and charges on the bike.

In independent testing the Lumen returned roughly 30km with 1,000m of climbing on mostly mid-power assist with around 15% left in reserve. A genuine big Sunday ride in the Dandenongs or a full evening of Yarra Bend laps.

A 160Wh TQ range extender bolts into the bottle cage for a 520Wh total when you want a longer day out.

The rear end is a linkage-driven single pivot with a flex stay, running a Fox Nude 5T EVOL shock mounted inside the frame.

TwinLoc gives you three shock modes from the bar: Descend, Traction, Lockout. Which on a bike with this much pedalling input is genuinely useful rather than a gimmick.

Descend mode is supple off the top and controlled deeper in the stroke. Traction firms things up for seated technical climbing without killing grip.

Up front is a Fox 34 Float Rhythm with the GRIP damper at 130mm.

The head angle is 65.5° as standard and adjustable ±0.6° through the headset cups. So you can steepen it for tight, twisty riding or slacken it if you spend most of your time pointing downhill.

The Lumen eRide 910 build

Shimano handles the drivetrain and stopping power:

A Deore XT rear derailleur on Deore shifting and a 10–51T cassette, and Deore four-piston brakes on 180mm rotors front and rear. It's the correct choice on a bike carrying an extra few kilos.

Wheels are Syncros X-30SE tubeless-ready rims on Formula hubs, wrapped in Schwalbe Wicked Will 29 x 2.4in. Syncros supplies the Duncan 2.0 dropper, Fraser 2.0 DC bar and DC 2.0 stem.

One honest note on the tyres:

The Wicked Wills are fast and quiet and suit the bike's distance-eating design.

But:

They're the limiting factor if you ride steep, wet or loose terrain. If you're heading to Buxton, Warburton or the You Yangs in the wet, budget for a grippier front tyre.

How much does the Scott Lumen eRide 910 weigh?

Around 17.6kg in a size medium, set up tubeless and without pedals which is roughly 6kg lighter than a typical full-power carbon eMTB. Independent test weights have come in slightly higher at about 18.1kg depending on size and setup.

How far will the Lumen eRide 910 go on a charge?

The 360Wh battery covers roughly 30km with 1,000m of climbing on mid-level assist, with a little left in reserve.

Flatter riding, lighter riders and lower assist settings all extend that considerably. The optional 160Wh TQ range extender takes total capacity to 520Wh.

Is the TQ HPR50 powerful enough?

It depends what you want.

At 50Nm it delivers about half the torque of a Bosch Performance CX or Shimano EP8, so it assists your pedalling rather than replacing it.

Riders with reasonable fitness who want longer rides and more laps love it; riders who want to be propelled up climbs should look at a full-power eMTB instead.

Can you remove the battery?

No. The 360Wh pack is integrated into the frame and charges on the bike. That's part of how Scott keeps the weight and the frame silhouette down.
