What is an electric road bike?

An electric road bike is simply a normal road bike with a motor.

What isn't simple is the process to:

  • Retain impeccable handling.
  • Delivery power naturally.
  • Attain a suitable frame stiffness to weight ratio to handle the slightly extra weight of the battery and motor.

A standout example is Orbea's Gain electric road bike. Orbea has been developing e-road bikes for years, so they are ahead of the game.

The motor assists when you start to pedal. Plus you can adjust the level of assistance to suit your speed, terrain and effort level.
