Mongoose BMX range.
Mongoose has 4 styles of BMXs:
- Legion (street/park/dirt)
- Title (race)
- Retro (Supergoose/California)
- Youth (LXS/Legion L16/L18)
With the Legion range, higher the number, the better the model.
The top-tube length determines the “size” of the BMX, not the wheel size.
We’ve given a brief preview of each model below (keep scrolling down).
For the kids.
For the kids, this is the size range (from smallest to biggest):
- Legion L16 (388mm top tube)
- Legion L18 (427mm top tube)
- LXS (462mm top tube)
The Legion L16 uses 16-inch wheels, the L18 18-inch wheels and the LXS uses 20-inch wheels.
This is a rough size guide for each:
- Legion L16: 110-122cm
- Legion L18: 122-135cm
- LXS: 135-155cm
Legion L10 and L20
Mongoose’s BMX range starts off at the Legion L10.
It’s made from hi-tensile steel with 1-piece cranks.
Top-tube length is 20-inches which makes it perfect for riders above approximately 155cm.
Next is the Legion L20.
This has a top tube length of 20.25-inches.
For the extra dollars, you get stronger 3-piece cranks.
Legion L40 and L60. The sweet spot.
The Legion L40 uses a 20.5-inch top tube, ideal for riders around 5’6”.
Mongoose’s Legion L60 is a nice sweet spot build.
It’s the same size as the L40 at 20.5-inches but the handlebars are bigger (1” wider and 0.75” taller).
It also has an integrated head tube which means a stronger frame.
The rims are also wider, which not only makes them stronger but also less prone to pinch flats on hard landings.
Legion L80.
The Legion L80 is designed for taller riders because it uses a
20.75-inch top tube which will suit riders from around 5’8” tall.
It’s the first BMX in the range to use a 4130 Chromoly steel front triangle.
This means the L80 is better at absorbing impacts and shocks, more resistant to corrosion than steel and lighter than steel.
Lighter aluminium hubs also means a lighter overall BMX too.
Legion L100.
The Legion L100 is the second-best BMX in Mongoose’s range.
The L100 uses a complete 4130 Chromoly frame (not just the front half like the legion L80).
And it’s not just the frame; the L100’s fork is also made from 4130 Chromoly.
At 21-inches long, the frame is ideally designed for riders from
5’11” and upwards.
Double wall rims at 30mm wide are designed for big impacts.
Legion L500.
The L500 is the best in the range.
It's the same frame size as the L100, except the bars are 33mm wider.
Full-sealed hub bearings. Stronger 48 spline BB axle instead of 8 spline (L100).
Lastly, the L500 comes standard with KMC's half-link HL1 chain; allowing riders to adjust chain tension better than a full-link chain.
