Fox Speedframe RS Paranoid Helmet

The Fox Speedframe RS is the top model in Fox's Speedframe trail helmet range. It builds on the Speedframe with Mips Integra Split protection, a BOA dial for fine fit adjustment, a magnetic FIDLOCK buckle and a place to stow your sunglasses. This version has Fox's Paranoid graphic, in Midnight Blue, Military Green or Rust Brown.

The Speedframe RS has a five-star rating from Virginia Tech's independent helmet ratings, and Fox says it meets the Dutch NTA 8776 standard for e-bike helmets, which tests impacts at higher speeds than a standard bicycle helmet test.

How Mips Integra Split works

Most crashes hit the head at an angle, which makes it rotate as well as stop. Research shows that rotational motion carries a greater risk of brain injury than a straight impact. Mips systems are designed to reduce that rotation.

In the Speedframe RS, the foam liner is split into two layers with a low-friction layer between them. In an angled impact, the layers can slide against each other, which is designed to reduce the rotational motion passed to your head. Splitting the foam also lets Fox use two densities:

• A softer inner layer for lower-speed impacts.
• A denser outer layer for higher-speed impacts.

Because the Mips layer is built into the foam rather than added as a separate plastic liner, it sits out of the way, leaving the fit comfortable and more room for ventilation.

Fit and comfort

• BOA Fit System: turn the dial at the back to tighten or loosen the helmet in small steps, even while riding.
• FIDLOCK SNAP buckle: a magnetic buckle you can open and close one-handed with gloves on.
• Ionic+ liner: the removable liner wicks sweat and is antimicrobial to control odour. Take it out and wash it.
• Ventilation: channels moulded into the EPS foam move air over your head on long, hot climbs.

Visor and sunglasses storage

The visor has three positions and adjusts with one hand. Push it up to make room for goggles on the descent, or drop it down to keep the sun out. When you take your sunglasses off, dedicated ports in the helmet hold them securely, so they're not bouncing in a pocket or hanging off your jersey.

Sizing

How to measure:

Wrap a soft tape measure around your head about 2.5cm (one finger-width) above your eyebrows, at the widest point. If you're right on the line between two sizes, try both: the right one sits level and feels snug before you tighten the dial.
