If you’re familiar with the Giro Montaro, then you’ll be speaking a similar language when talking about the Cartelle MIPS ladies helmet from Giro. The Cartelles were developed on the same wave length and it’s clear in the design. Giro have included all their best features into what is without argument, the most important part of any riders kit: the helmet.
The Cartelle first of all is MIPS equipped. MIPS is a technology invented in mid 1990’s Sweden by Hans Von Holst and Peter Halldin and is basically a separate layer attached to the CSPA impact foam that aids in angular impacts which result in dangerous rotations of the brain. What’s really neat about it though is that it moves separately from the outer shell by a few millimetres and deflects more of the impact if you bounce after your crash. With this in mind, it is obvious how important this technology is to have on your helmet.
The Cartelle’s compact shape provides deep and confident coverage of the skull and the Roc Loc 5 fit system allows you to easily dial-in both fit tension and vertical position with a single hand. If you’re a true DH’er too, you’ll be happy to know that Giro have built the Cartelle with goggle compatibility and have included the P.O.V. Plus™ visor which you can lift upwards to fit your goggles. Regarding aspects of comfort, the Cartelle has refreshing Coolmax padding which has terrific wicking properties and is extra plush to provide all-day comfort on the trail.
