The 2027 Giant Trance Advanced E+ 2 is the entry point to Giant's new carbon trail e-MTB.
It uses the same Advanced-grade carbon frame, SyncDrive Pro4 motor (120Nm, 850W peak) and 840Wh battery as the flagship E+ 0, with RockShox suspension, Shimano Deore 12-speed and a travel-adjustable dropper.
Travel is 160mm front and 150mm rear on mixed 29in and 27.5in wheels.
Flagship frame and motor, simpler parts
On many e-MTB ranges, the entry build gets an alloy frame or a smaller battery.
Here it doesn't.
The E+ 2 has the same carbon frame, Maestro suspension design, motor, 840Wh battery, Traction Control and tyre pressure monitoring as the E+ 0. The same Maxxis Assegai and Minion DHR II EXO+ tyres and the same 220mm and 203mm brake rotors are fitted too.
The savings come from parts you can upgrade later, not the parts you can't.
Mechanical where it counts
The E+ 2 is the only build with cable-actuated shifting and dropper.
Shimano Deore 12-speed with a 10-51T cassette is a proven, simple drivetrain that any workshop can service, with nothing to charge.
The Giant Contact Switch AT dropper is cable-operated with a bar remote, and its travel can be adjusted (for example, 140 to 170mm on a medium) to suit your leg length.
The cockpit is a separate Giant Contact TR35 bar with 35mm of rise and a 40mm Contact SL stem, where the other builds use a one-piece bar and stem.
That makes the E+ 2 the easiest build to fine-tune for fit, because a different stem or bar is a standard part.
RockShox suspension
The RockShox Psylo Gold RC fork has 160mm of travel and an air spring with rebound and compression adjustment, and is built with e-MTB loads in mind.
The Deluxe Select shock is custom tuned for this bike. It's simpler to set up than the Fox and Crest units higher in the range, and it's the most common first upgrade if you want more adjustment later.
Giant's new E+ system
The 2.4kg SyncDrive Pro4 motor reaches peak torque within 0.28 seconds and is designed not to fade as your cadence rises.
Six ride modes are tunable in the RideControl app, and the wireless RideControl Ergo 5 remote controls the assist.
Traction Control eases off the power when the rear wheel starts to slip. The 840Wh battery removes for charging, and a 280Wh range extender takes it to 1,120Wh.
A three-position flip chip adjusts the head angle between about 64.1 and 64.9 degrees, and the 155mm Praxis cranks help avoid pedal strikes on rocky climbs. TRP EVO Comp four-piston brakes handle the stopping.
Built to last at full power
A 120Nm motor puts more strain on everything behind it, and Giant has built the whole range for that:
- Battery life: Giant rates the EnergyPak Smart 840 for a 2,300-cycle lifespan, using high-density 22700 cells in a 3.7kg pack.
- Wheels: the HD wheels use a titanium ratchet in the rear hub that Giant rates 20% stronger than its previous generation.
- Testing: Giant tests the bike as a complete system, including 30,000km of wear testing and motor dyno testing at its headquarters.
The Smart Charger X can be mounted on a wall or handlebar and has a built-in cable spool, and the optional EnergyPak Plus 280 range extender bolts onto the bottle cage mounts.
E+ 2 or E+ SE?
The Trance Advanced E+ SE is the next step up.
It adds electronic shifting and an electronic dropper, both controlled from the same remote as the motor, with Giant Crest suspension.
If you'd rather keep things mechanical and spend the difference on riding, the E+ 2 gives you the same frame, motor and battery.
The Trance Advanced E+ 1 and E+ 0 step up again to Fox suspension and SRAM Transmission.
Compare the 2027 Trance Advanced E+ range
All four builds share the same Advanced-grade carbon frame, SyncDrive Pro4 120Nm motor, 840Wh battery, 160/150mm travel and Maxxis tyres. Here's what changes. On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every build.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Giant Trance Advanced E+ 2 carbon?
Yes. It uses the same Advanced-grade carbon frame as every build in the range, including the flagship E+ 0.
Does the Trance Advanced E+ 2 have the same motor and battery as the E+ 0?
Yes. All four builds use the SyncDrive Pro4 motor (120Nm, 850W peak) and the 840Wh EnergyPak Smart battery.
What's the difference between the Trance Advanced E+ 2 and E+ SE?
The SE adds TRP electronic shifting and an electronic dropper controlled through the E+ remote, an integrated cockpit and Giant Crest suspension. The E+ 2 has Shimano Deore 12-speed, a cable dropper, a separate bar and stem and RockShox suspension.
Is the dropper post electronic?
No. The E+ 2 uses the cable-operated Contact Switch AT dropper, with adjustable travel. The other three builds have the electronic Contact Switch E.
Can I add a range extender?
Yes. The EnergyPak Plus 280 adds 280Wh, for 1,120Wh in total. It bolts onto the bottle cage mounts and is sold separately.
How long does the Trance Advanced E+ battery last?
Giant rates the EnergyPak Smart 840 for 2,300 charge cycles.
One cycle is one full battery's worth of use, whether that's a single ride from full to empty or several shorter rides adding up to the same. At two full charges a week, that's well over 20 years of riding.
In practice, age, heat and how the battery is stored usually wear it out before the cycle count does.
Avoid leaving it in a hot car or in direct sun, and don't store it at 100% or completely flat for months. If the bike won't be ridden for a while, store the battery part-charged somewhere cool and dry.
