The 2027 Giant Trance Advanced E+ SE is the most connected build in Giant's new carbon trail e-MTB range for the money.
One wireless remote, the RideControl Ergo 5, runs the motor, the electronic dropper post and the TRP electronic gear shifting.
It shares the same carbon frame, SyncDrive Pro4 motor (120Nm, 850W peak) and 840Wh battery as every Trance Advanced E+, with Giant's own Crest suspension delivering 160mm of travel front and 150mm rear.
One remote for motor, dropper and gears
On most e-MTBs, the motor remote, the dropper lever and the shifter are three separate controls from up to three different brands. On the SE, the TRP TRD-002 electronic derailleur and the Contact Switch E electronic dropper both run through Giant's RideControl Ergo 5 remote, alongside the assist modes. That's fewer controls to reach for mid-trail.
The derailleur and the dropper both draw power from the main 840Wh battery, so there are no extra batteries to charge or forget.
Built for durability: Shimano CUES LinkGlide
The SE runs 11 gears on a Shimano CUES LinkGlide 11-50T cassette, where the other builds use 12-speed.
LinkGlide is Shimano's durability-focused tooth profile.
It's designed for smooth shifting under load and a longer wear life, which suits the high torque an e-MTB puts through the drivetrain.
The 11-50T range is only slightly narrower than the 10-51T and 10-52T cassettes on the 12-speed builds. You lose a little at the top end, which matters less on an e-MTB, where the motor cuts out at 25km/h.
Giant Crest suspension
The fork is a Giant Crest TR 36 Elite air fork with 36mm stanchions, and the shock is a Crest FloTrac TR with a three-position lever.
Both are tuned specifically for e-MTB weights and forces and for this bike's Maestro linkage. Crest is Giant's own suspension rather than a Fox or RockShox part, which helps the SE bring electronic shifting and an electronic dropper in below the E+ 1.
Same motor, battery and frame as the flagship
The SyncDrive Pro4 motor makes 120Nm and 850W peak and is designed to hold its power across the full cadence range.
Traction Control backs off the assist when the rear wheel slips on loose climbs, then restores it once the tyre grips.
Tyre pressures show on the frame display before every ride. The 840Wh battery removes for charging, and a 280Wh range extender takes capacity to 1,120Wh.
Geometry is identical across the range: 29in front and 27.5in rear wheels, and a three-position flip chip that adjusts the head angle between about 64.1 and 64.9 degrees. Maxxis Assegai and Minion DHR II EXO+ tyres, TRP EVO Comp brakes with 220mm and 203mm rotors, and 155mm Praxis cranks complete the build.
E+ SE, E+ 2 or E+ 1?
Compared with the Trance Advanced E+ 2, the SE swaps cable-actuated Deore shifting and a cable dropper for electronic shifting and an electronic dropper on one remote, and RockShox suspension for Giant Crest.
Step up to the Trance Advanced E+ 1 for Fox Performance suspension, SRAM GX Transmission 12-speed and TRP EVO Expert brakes.
Compare the 2027 Trance Advanced E+ range
All four builds share the same Advanced-grade carbon frame, SyncDrive Pro4 120Nm motor, 840Wh battery, 160/150mm travel and Maxxis tyres. Here's what changes. On a phone, swipe the table sideways to see every build.
