Hornit CLUG Upgrade Kit MTB-XL

The Hornit CLUG Upgrade Kit MTB XL turns a CLUG MTB XL you already own into a CLUG PRO.

It replaces the clip with one that has a magnetic FIDLOCK winch and a cord that loops around your rim.

With the winch locked, your CLUG is rated for bikes and e-bikes up to 30kg, and the bike stays secure even if a tyre goes flat in long-term storage.

This is not a complete CLUG.

It only works with a CLUG MTB XL that's already on your wall.

This kit fits the CLUG MTB XL only, the size for tyres measuring 58 to 69mm.

Hornit makes a separate upgrade kit for each CLUG size, and the kit must match the size of the CLUG you're upgrading.

It won't fit a CLUG Roadie, Hybrid, MTB or Plus.

Why upgrade?

A standard CLUG holds the bike by gripping the tyre, and Hornit rates it to 20kg. The upgrade adds a second hold on the rim:

• E-bikes and heavier bikes: the rating goes up to 30kg with the winch locked. Many e-MTBs run 2.4 to 2.6in tyres that measure in the MTB XL range, and weigh more than 20kg.
• Long-term storage: tyres slowly lose pressure, and a soft tyre can loosen a standard CLUG's grip. The cord keeps the rim held, so the bike stays put.
• Busy hallways and garages: the bike won't drop out if someone brushes past it, and it's harder for children or pets to knock it loose.

How it fits

Unscrew your CLUG's outer clip and replace it with the new one. The wall plugs and screws already in your wall stay where they are, so there's no new drilling.

To store the bike, push the tyre into the clip as usual, pass the cord around the rim and turn the winch to take up the slack.

The ratchet holds the tension, and the magnetic FIDLOCK handle clicks into place. The magnets guide the handle into position, and interlocking teeth hold it closed. The cord length can be set to suit your tyre and rim.

Your CLUG MTB XL still needs to be fixed to brick or a timber stud, not plasterboard, especially at the higher 30kg rating.

Will this upgrade kit fit my CLUG MTB or CLUG Hybrid?
No. This kit only fits the CLUG MTB XL, for tyres measuring 58 to 69mm. Each CLUG size has its own upgrade kit.

Is the upgrade kit a complete bike rack?
No. It replaces the clip on an existing CLUG MTB XL. You need the CLUG itself as well.

Do I need to drill new holes?
No. The kit replaces the clip and reuses your existing wall fixings.

Can my CLUG hold an e-bike after the upgrade?
Yes. With the winch locked, the upgraded CLUG is rated for bikes up to 30kg.

Is it safe for people with pacemakers?
The winch contains magnets, which Hornit warns may be harmful to pacemakers and other sensitive equipment.
