All the Technical Performance Specifications

Every 20 inch BMX bike in our collection is made for high performance riding:

  • Frame Material: Explore models with Full 4130 Chromoly frames for superior strength, lightness and durability. Hi-Tensile Steel frames are available for entry-level riders who need a reliable ride without breaking the budget.
  • Rim Type: You can choose between single-wall rims for lighter, casual riding or double-wall rims for durability that withstands higher impacts from tricks and jumps.
  • Hub Type: BMX bikes come with either loose bearing or sealed bearing hubs. Loose bearings need a little more maintenance, whereas sealed bearings roll smoother and don't need to be maintained as often.
  • Handlebar Rise & Stem Reach: Different BMX models use different bar heights and widths. BMX bikes with longer top tubes use higher and wider bars designed for taller riders.
  • Drivetrain: Our 20 inch BMX bikes come with 25T/9T gearing and 3-piece tubular chromoly cranks, ensuring efficient power transfer and strong performance in any trick or terrain. 1-piece cranks come on entry-level BMX bikes, and they don't feel as direct in their pedalling as 3-piece and need a little more maintenance.

Understanding Terrain Compatibility

Our BMX 20 inch range is ready to handle any type of riding or terrain:

  • Street Riding: These bikes are built for tricks that require quick stops and controlled movements. A Freecoaster hub is ideal for this type of riding, allowing for backward movement without pedaling.
  • Park Riding: Our 20 inch BMX bikes designed for park riding come equipped with Gyro brake detanglers, ensuring smooth rotations during barspins, flips, and other aerial tricks.
  • Dirt Riding: Dirt-specific 20 inch BMX bikes come with reinforced frames and strong tires, promising all the stability needed for jumps and rough terrain.

Your Advanced BMX Sizing and Geometry Guide

When getting your hands on your 20 inch BMX bike, it’s always best to think about the Top Tube length and Chainstay length:

  • Top Tube Length: Riders typically choose a Top Tube length of 20.5” for average height, while taller riders may prefer a 21” Top Tube for additional comfort and control.
  • Chainstay Length: A shorter Chainstay provides quicker bike responsiveness, - better for technical tricks - while a longer Chainstay offers more stability, which is helpful for high jumps and drops.

Keep Your 20 Inch BMX Looking its Best

Checking over your 20 inch BMX bike is key for safe, high-performance riding:

  • Truing Wheels: Make sure your rims stay true after high-impact landings and tough rides to avoid wobbling
  • Tensioning Chains: Keep your chain properly tensioned to avoid slippage during tricks and help with smooth pedaling.

Making Sure You Get the Right Bike

When getting your hands on a BMX 20 inch bike, consider the following:

  • Full Chromoly vs. Hi-Tensile Steel Frames: Full 4130 Chromoly offers unmatched strength when it comes to advanced riders. If you’re just starting or want something more affordable, Hi-Tensile Steel frames are a solid, budget-friendly option.
  • Sealed Bearings: Opt for bikes with sealed bearings if you want low-maintenance, long-lasting performance. These bearings ensure smooth rides with minimal upkeep.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Chromoly preferred over Hi-Tensile steel for 20-inch BMX frames?

Chromoly (Full 4130 Chromoly) is stronger, lighter, and more durable than Hi-Tensile Steel, making it the preferred material for high-performance bikes that need to withstand extreme impacts and repeated stress from tricks.

What Top Tube length should I choose for my height?

The ideal Top Tube length is typically 20.5” for average riders, but taller riders may prefer 21” for a more comfortable and stable ride.

Do these BMX bikes come with pegs included?

Most BMX bikes don't come with pegs, but we do sell them separately and almost all BMX bikes are compatible with them.

Can a 20-inch BMX be used for daily commuting as well as tricks?

No. The gearing is not designed for commuting and you'll reach top speed quickly. Also, you need to stand up while riding a BMX so it's not a comfortable riding position for long lengths of time.

Will my bike arrive fully assembled and safety-tested by a mechanic?

Yes! All of our BMX bike 20 inch models are professionally assembled, safety-checked, and tuned before pickup, ensuring your bike is ready to ride right out of the box.

What apparel should be worn on BMX bikes?

Just like any other bike, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to BMX apparel. Pair your riding setup with essentials like men’s cycling jacketsbike gloves, and men's cycling base layers to stay protected, comfortable, and in control across all riding conditions.
