24" Kids Bikes (ages 7-12)

24-inch kids bikes come in these 2 types: Mountain Bike (MTB) and Lightweight. And then there’s something in between these two.

24-inch MTB

24-inch MTBs have front suspension, wider tyres and at least 7 gears.

These bikes are better suited to young kids who are doing a bit of everything; suburban bike paths, dirt and gravel trails and rail trails.

Think of these as an all-terrain bike. And that’s what makes them so versatile.

Like with everything there are different levels of 24-inch MTBs.

For recreational riding, some of our popular options include: Giant Talon 24 Disc, GT Stomper Prime 24, Liv Tempt 24, Haro Flightline 24, ByK E540 MTB and E540 MTB Disc.

A note on gears:

Most 24-inch bikes use a single front gear paired to multiple back gears.

A single front gear does not need a front derailleur, front gear cable or front gear shifter. So you immediately minimise moving parts and therefore maintenance.

24-inch Lightweight

These bikes don’t have suspension because it helps reduce weight. After all, suspension is one of the heavier components on any bike.

Parents should consider a lightweight option if the majority of riding is going to be on smooth pavement with minimal impacts.

Some options in our range include: ByK E540 Girls, ByK E540 Boys, Liv Enchant Street and Giant XTC Street.

The lightweight version of ByK’s E540 comes in a few variations (9-speed and 3-speed).

The Liv and Giant Street versions have 3-gears and a footbrake. These are great options if you’re young rider still heavily relies on using their feet to slow down.

24-inch MTB x Lightweight

And we also got a very cool cross-over option.

Haro designed the Beasley as a robust and rugged street bike.

Beasley’s get wider tyres, like the mountain bikes. These tyres can accommodate more air volume and act as micro-suspension.

There’s no front suspension fork. Instead there’s a lightweight aluminium one; making the steering light and agile.

Actually, pretty much everything on the Beasley’s is aluminium; handlebars, rims, seat post, cranks, hubs.

Haro hasn’t cut corners. Haro’s focus was on making these bikes as light as possible for kids.

Plus, they’re excellent value. They come with disc brakes where most other bikes we have don’t.
