Ivanhoe Cycles is an authorised Avanti dealer. Avanti has been building bikes since 1985. A New Zealand brand with an Australian arm since 1991. The range covers electric, mountain, urban and kids bikes.

We're currently clearing Avanti run-out stock at up to 50% off RRP, with the deepest discounts on the electric range. Every bike below is assembled and safety-checked by our mechanics before you collect it, from our stores in Heidelberg Heights, Hallam and Hoppers Crossing.

Avanti Electric Bikes

This is where the range is strongest right now and where our run-out discounts are deepest.

The Explorer-E family is Avanti's trekking platform. Upright position, wide tyres, mudguards and rack mounts, built for commuting and long weekend riding rather than trails.

Explorer-E1 Low is the step-through, easiest to get on and off and the one most riders should look at first. Explorer-E DS1 and DS2 add suspension for rougher surfaces, with the DS2 carrying the highest-spec build in the family.

Discovery-E Low is the simplest and cheapest way into an Avanti e-bike. A step-through urban bike for flat commutes and shopping runs rather than distance.

On the trail side, Competitor-E2 is the electric mountain bike for regular trail riding, and Hammer-E LT1 is the long-travel version for steeper, more technical descents.

A note worth having before you buy:

E-bike motor and battery servicing is the part people don't think about, and it's the reason buying an electric bike from a dealer who can service it matters more than it does on a normal bike. We service what we sell, at all three stores.

Avanti Mountain Bikes

Four bikes covering the full spread from first-timer to committed trail rider.

Black Thunder LE is the entry point. A hardtail for rail trails, fire roads and light singletrack, and a genuinely good first mountain bike at $699.

Montari MS 1 steps up the fork and brakes. If you're riding easy singletrack rather than gravel paths, this is where the range starts to make sense.

Hammer 2 is the serious hardtail. A modern trail geometry, no rear suspension. A hardtail teaches line choice in a way a full-suspension bike doesn't, and for most riders new to trails it's the better bike to learn on.

Hammer S is the dual-suspension bike.

A 29er with 130mm of rear travel on an aluminium frame. Australian reviewers have found it efficient and quick-pedalling on smoother singletrack, and firmer than its travel figure suggests on genuinely rough ground.

So it suits flowing trails better than it suits chunder. It's one of the cheapest ways into a dual-suspension 29er from an authorised dealer.

Avanti Urban and Commuter Bikes

The X-Plorer is Avanti's flat-bar commuter. Upright, comfortable, set up for mudguards and a rack.

We stock the X-Plorer 2, the step-through X-Plorer 2W, and the higher-spec X-Plorer MS 2W.

All three do the same job well: getting to work, riding the Main Yarra Trail, and being left at a station without worrying about it.

Avanti Kids Bikes

Three sizes, covering the first three stages.

  • Lil Ripper 12" Balance has no pedals, for the first stage.
  • MXR 20" is a pedal bike for riders aged from 6 years old.

Sizing kids' bikes by age is unreliable. Bring them in and we'll fit them properly. The difference between a bike a child rides and one that lives in the garage is almost always just fit.

Looking for an Avanti road or gravel bike?

We don't currently stock the Avanti road range; the Giro, Corsa and Gran Durance families.

If that's what you came for, call us on the number below and we'll tell you honestly whether we can order one in, or point you at the closest equivalent we do have in stock from Giant, Cannondale or Norco.

Buying an Avanti in Melbourne

We're an authorised Avanti dealer with three stores in Heidelberg Heights, Hallam and Hoppers Crossing. We've been family-run since 1986.

Every bike is fully assembled and safety-checked by our mechanics before you collect it, whether you buy in store or through Click & Collect. That's included, not an add-on.

Test rides are the point of a local bike shop. Tell us where you ride, how far, and how much you want to carry, and we'll tell you which bike suits (including when the cheaper one is the right answer).

Give us a call first to check the size you want is on the floor.

FAQs

Are Avanti bikes any good?

Yes, they are an great mid-range bike brand.

Avanti sits in the value-for-money part of the market. You get more componentry for the money than from the bigger global brands, on frames that are conservative rather than cutting-edge.

They're a sensible choice for commuting, trail riding and first bikes, and less obviously the choice if you're racing.

Where can I buy Avanti bikes in Melbourne?

Ivanhoe Cycles is an authorised Avanti dealer with three Melbourne stores in Heidelberg Heights, Hallam and Hoppers Crossing.

You can buy online with Click & Collect or come in store, and every bike is assembled and safety-checked before collection.

What's the difference between the Avanti Hammer and the Montari?

The Montari is the entry-to-mid hardtail. Good for singletrack and rail trails.

The Hammer is the step up:

Hammer 2 is the serious hardtail, and Hammer S is the dual-suspension 29er with 130mm of rear travel. If you're riding trails most weekends, the Hammer is the one that'll keep up.

Which Avanti e-bike should I buy?

Discovery-E Low for flat urban commuting on a budget.

Explorer-E1 Low if you want a step-through that can also do long weekend rides.

Explorer-E DS1 or DS2 if you're covering distance on mixed surfaces and want suspension.

Competitor-E2 or Hammer-E LT1 if you're riding actual mountain bike trails.

Come and ride them. The difference in feel between a trekking e-bike and an e-MTB is large and hard to describe.

Do you assemble the bike?

Yes. Every bike is fully assembled and safety-checked by our mechanics before collection, at no extra cost.

Can I test ride an Avanti before I buy?

Yes, at all three stores. Call ahead so we can make sure your size is on the floor.

Do Avanti bikes come with a warranty?

Yes, Avanti have a Limited Lifetime warranty on their frames. The parts come with their own manufacturer's warranty.

Buying from an authorised Avanti dealer keeps the manufacturer's warranty intact, and we handle warranty claims for you in store.

This matters most on e-bikes, where the motor and battery are the expensive components.
