What is the Liv Tempt?
The Tempt is a recreational mountain bike that's designed specifically for women; pre-teens, teens and adults.
Tempt riders can use their new bike on any terrain; pavement, rail trails, smooth dirt and gravel.
Liv has designed 4 Tempt models. The range starts from the mid-range build Tempt 4 and tops-out at the Tempt 1.
We'll go through and explain the differences below. For the sake of relevancy, we'll cover the latest 2025 Tempt range.
Liv Tempt 4.
Liv's Tempt 4 is designed for riders who are riding on suburban or country bike paths with a combination of pavement, dirt and gravel.
However, if you decide to attempt easy mountain bike trails, the Tempt 4 can handle that.
For 2025, Liv has used more robust hardware that can deal with slightly rougher conditions.
A single front gear reduces moving parts and therefore extra maintenance.
Mechanical disc brakes deliver better braking performance than rim brakes.
In a nutshell:
- Robust and reliable 8 speed gears.
- Mechanical disc brakes.
- S and M frames sizes.
Liv Tempt 3.
The Tempt 3 is designed for a little more suburbia than off-road. In fact, it's a little less off-road capable than the Tempt 4 above.
Liv has added 2 front gears paired to 8 rear gears, delivering a total of 16 gears. This setup makes the Tempt 3 achieve a higher top-speed; ideal for flatter trails.
The Tempt 3 also gets hydraulic disc brakes instead of mechanical.
Hydraulic brakes deliver more stopping power and better controls. Plus they don't need as much maintenance.
- 16-speed gears.
- Hydraulic disc brakes.
- S and M frame sizes.
Liv Tempt 2.
Liv's Tempt 2 is an upper end recreational women's mountain bike.
This model goes back to a single front gear setup; focusing more on off-road use.
And it's now paired to 9 gears on the back, delivering more range than the Tempt 4. And smoother gear changes.
To make the Tempt 2 more off-road capable, another upgrade is the latest SXC32-3 RL suspension fork.
It's a noticeable upgrade too. Smoother, plusher and delivering better handling over tree roots, rocks and bumps.
A note on sizing.
It's the first Tempt to use an XS frame and have the S frame size available in 2 wheel sizes (27.5 and 29).
The smaller 27.5-inch wheels are best for smaller riders because they make the Tempt 2 more agile and responsive.
However, the larger 29-inch diameter wheels are more stable and roll easier.
- 9-speed gears.
- Hydraulic disc brakes.
- SXC32-3 RL suspension fork.
- XS (27.5), S (27.5), S (29), M (29).
Liv Tempt 1.
The Tempt 1 is for riders who want the most capable off-road mountain bike (or the best serious-recreational one).
What makes the Tempt 1 the most capable is the following:
- Latest Shimano CUES 10-speed components are extremely durable. The cassette uses Shimano's LinkGlide design, which was designed for e-bikes.
- A dropper seatpost allows riders to lower the seat when descending (or simply getting on the bike) - without actually getting off the bike.
A handlebar mounted lever adjusts the seat height, so riders are in full control.
