What is the Norco Storm?

The Norco Storm is Norco's entry-level aluminium hardtail mountain bike, which Norco classes as a cross-country bike.

It's built for bike paths, gravel, fire roads and beginner singletrack, and it's designed as a first mountain bike for adults and older kids.

Every adult Storm has a front suspension fork, a single chainring and disc brakes, and the higher models add hydraulic brakes and a dropper post.

The Storm comes in two families.

The adult Storm is numbered 4, 3, 2 and 1 for 2027, where the Storm 1 is the highest spec.

The Storm Youth and Storm Disc Rigid are kids versions on 20, 24, 26 and 27.5-inch wheels.

2027 Norco Storm range compared

All four adult Storms share an aluminium frame, a 30-tooth single chainring, 160mm disc rotors and flat pedals. Each step up the range adds one of the parts that matter most on a trail:

Which Norco Storm should you buy?

Storm 4: paths, gravel and getting started.

The lowest-priced Storm has a 100mm coil fork, simple 7-speed gearing and mechanical disc brakes. It suits bike paths, gravel roads, commuting and weekend rides, and it's easy to maintain.

Storm 3: hydraulic brakes.

The Storm 3 swaps to Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, which need less effort at the lever and adjust themselves as the pads wear, plus an eighth gear with a lower climbing range. If you plan to ride dirt trails regularly, it's the most useful step up from the Storm 4.

Storm 2: a dropper post.

The Storm 2 adds an X-Fusion dropper post, which lowers the saddle from a lever on the handlebar so you can move your weight back on descents.

It's the part most new riders end up wanting, and it's uncommon to find one fitted as standard at this level.

It also moves to Shimano's CUES 9-speed.

Storm 1: the most capable Storm.

The Storm 1 has a 120mm fork with a lockout for smooth roads and climbs, a stiffer 15mm thru-axle front end and Shimano CUES 10-speed with the widest gear range in the range.

Choose it if you'll ride rougher trails or want room to progress.

Norco Storm models on sale

We also have 2025 Storm models while stock lasts:

  • Norco Storm 120 (2025) uses a 120mm SR Suntour fork with lockout, a 15mm thru-axle, Shimano CUES 1x10, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, an X-Fusion Manic dropper and wider 2.35-inch Maxxis Forekaster tyres. It's close to the spec of the 2027 Storm 1 and is priced below it while stock lasts.
  • Norco Storm (2025) uses a 100mm coil fork, Shimano 1x8 gearing and mechanical disc brakes. It sits between the 2027 Storm 4 and Storm 3.

Norco Storm for kids

The kids Storms are built like the adult bike: an aluminium frame, a single chainring with no front derailleur and disc brakes, on wheel sizes that grow with your child.

There are two types.

The Storm Youth has a suspension fork for dirt trails.

The Storm Disc Rigid has a rigid alloy fork, which keeps the bike lighter and leaves nothing to service, so it's a good choice for paths, parks and pump tracks.

Heights are the optimal fit from Norco's kids size chart. A child a few centimetres shorter can usually manage the bike as a size to grow into. Check the fit with your child on the bike.

The 27.5" Storm Youth is the only kids Storm with hydraulic disc brakes, which need less finger strength to stop: a real advantage for riders who are starting to tackle longer descents. It also has the same Shimano CUES 9-speed gearing as the adult Storm 2.

When your child reaches about 155cm, a Small adult Storm is the next step

Every Small adult Storm runs 27.5-inch wheels, so the move up from the 27.5" Storm Youth feels familiar.

Choosing your Norco Storm size

Norco's size guide for the 2027 Storm puts the:

  • Small at 155 to 165cm
  • Medium at 164 to 174cm
  • Large at 173 to 183cm
  • XL at 181 to 191cm
  • XXL at 190 to 200cm

The Small rolls on 27.5-inch wheels, which keeps the bike in proportion for shorter riders, and Medium and up use 29-inch wheels, which roll over roots and rocks more easily.

The Storm 3 also comes in XS, in the silver colour only.

In our experience, if you're an Adult in between 2 sizes, we'd suggest sizing up. For pre-teens, it's best to size down.

That's because Norco uses a longer seat tube on their frames. This means the frame is taller and the seat won't go down as low.

When to look beyond the Storm

The Storm is built for paths, fire roads and green and easy blue singletrack.

It isn't designed for big jumps, big drops or steep technical descents.

If that's where your riding is heading, a 130mm trail hardtail like the Norco Charger A2 is the better starting point.

You can compare every brand on our hardtail mountain bikes page, or see the full range on our Norco bikes page.
